2025-02-22 00:00:31 +0000 UTCoh the other thing I wanted to say, Light was imagining the chains not because Near reminds him of L (he knows literally nothing about Near or his mannerisms) but because he still feels L's chains wrapped around him. Because L had plans to capture him even in the event of his death. Which is something that I also feel a lot of fans don't appreciate. Yes L has been replaced but it's been by (potentially) handpicked successors that he almost assuredly taught, guided, and probably trusted to take up his mantle. Hence the contingency he ordered Watari to, deleting all locally stored data, transmitting it and the message of his death to Wammy House, and thus Roger, and thus Near and Mello.

There's a significant chunk of the Death Note fandom that consider everything after L's death to be a decline in quality, and it's something I've always strongly disagreed with. But it seems to mostly stem from people not liking L's successors, which doesn't seem to be the case with y'all. Whether or not you all like the second half(-ish) remains to be seen but yeah.
