In Western terms, the Tang Dynasty matches early medieval Europe (around the 7thβ10th centuries), while the Ming Dynasty lines up with the Renaissance (1400sβ1500s). So you can imagine an actual mirror is basically something so rare and new to them and it was given as a gift to the high-rank concubines of the emperor.

With this episode I really feel Maomaoβs character more, she always says that she doesnβt want trouble or to get involved but sheβs so nice that she canβt turn a blind eye, and her curiosity overweighs that itβs gotten to the point that sheβs involved in national political issues which is cool. And the trust she has built for herself is such a power move, one of the best MCsπ
