Creating An Enemy

The other day I did a stream to show off and time the creation of a single enemy from start to finish. This included doing the art for them and making sure they worked properly in game. This did -not- include any writing.

In general, it takes a few hours of work to have one enemy be at a game-ready state.

First I do a doodle, some concept art. This gives me just the rough idea of the enemy. Next is a much larger doodle that covers any other details I may feel are important.

This is then used as the base for the sprite. It's here that a majority of the actual character crafting is done. By this point I have a good idea of their personality and what I want to go for in their battle pose.

Final lines are the next step after that. There might be minor changes to the sprite. Then, I color them. A 'hurt' version is done and then the character is ready to go.
