From Matt:
June 2025
It’s not too late! You can still get tickets to our upcoming live shows by going to the live events on our website: https://hellofromthemagictavern.com/live-shows
Took a break from Taskmaster in order to voraciously devour all of The Devil’s Plan. I love that show. I want more. Can’t stop thinking about it. Moved on to The Traitors after that which is not quite as compelling but still a lot of fun. I’ve seen some of the US and the UK versions. Love Claudia and Alan.
Gundam Report: I’m slowly watching Gundam: The Origin which I like a lot. Also have been collecting the 12-volume manga version and it’s a really great retelling of the original MSG. Taking a break from model kits while I get ready to move. But maybe I can set up a
Watched an early cut of the documentary with the production team and it’s really shaping up. Looking forward to finding ways to share it with all of you!
Chris Rathjen and I continued our movie club this month by going to see Friendship. I enjoyed it, but sometimes felt it was hard to laugh at the funny stuff because it has this horror/thriller vibe that is not always conducive with giving the audience the permission structure to laugh. But I love Tim Robinson. He’s great in everything and I’d watch anything he does. All the performances are great.
I recorded some fun guest spots on some upcoming podcasts, so keep an eye on our socials when we promote those. One upcoming one is Joey Bland’s (Winky Silks) brand new comedy trivia podcast Like Minds. Check it out now!
Looking forward to meeting folks at the upcoming live shows! Please have the best possible summer you can and take care of yourselves.
Matt
From Adal:
Here’s what I was up to in June. Let me know if you have any recommendations for me!
TV:
The Bear season 4 - if you watch, make sure you look for Jemma’s cameo in episode 8 from seconds 00:18 to 00:20 as one of Sydney’s friends on a picnic!
Somebody Feed Phil season 8
Ironheart
MOVIE:
Ballerina: From the World of John Wick
OTHER:
Music for this month: Lots of Oasis, some Dire Straits, Interpol’s album Turn on the Bright Lights, really enjoyed the new Mars Volta that just came out. I’ve also been digging into the catalogue of my favorite band from this year’s Eurovison; Tautemeitas (from Latvia) and especially their album Skrejcels.
Jemma and I saw Guster live with Barenaked Ladies and Fastball so that was a real bath in the beautifully filthy mid-90’s waters of my youth.
The Hey Riddle Riddle tour has been a blast so far and we hit the road again at the end of this month. You can see info and tickets HERE
And here’s a few plugs for friends doing cool thangs:
Former Magic Tavern guest Jorin Garguilo wrote a book! The book, LUNACY: A MAXIMALIST NIGHTMARE, launched last week. If you're so inclined, you can order the book. Any bookstore will be able to order it for you, or you can order it yourself, at Bookshop.org. It's available in paperback or as an ebook
Former guest Josh Gondelman has a brand new special! Here’s the info from Josh himself: “Positive Reinforcement is out on Blonde Medicine's YouTube channel now! It was recorded live at the Bell House in Brooklyn in June 2024, and it was directed by Chris Werner (who I know from Last Week Tonight but now works at Saturday Night Live). There is no swearing in it, but there's a little bit of grownup material. It's okay to watch with your kids (if they are cool) or with your parents (if they are cool). Here's the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RAvNlgpdKKo”
Former Magic Tavern guests, Greg Hess and Joey Bland have a fantastic new game show podcast called Like Minds that you should check out! Erin Keif and myself were on a recent episode you can find HERE.
