WIP - Barkhound - Initial sketch

Hi all~

I started working on the 'Barkhound' by one of our Curators, Cameron. The idea submitted in our previous contest was :

Barkhounds are a species of wolf native to temperate forests. Their fur is umber in colour and they're somewhat stockier than the common wolf. However, what truly sets them apart is the dense bark that grows in patches on their body. When threatened this bark spreads to cover more of their form, providing protection from the claws and teeth of would-be predators. They are territorial and seldom found near civilization.

After some discussion, we decide to go toward a more scientific approach for the ability to form the bark skin armor. Instead of magic, we decided to make it able to secrete a substance that binds some area of its fur together and hardened them into armor plating.

I kinda already have the image regarding the color, fur, and armor, but I went ahead and tried several body types from the hyena, maned wolf, etc. I kinda interested with #2, but It doesn't fit with the territorial and tendency to attack intruder so instead, we agree with sketch #3~

I'll keep you up to date on how things progressing~
