Sluggish Slasher

Weapon (Longsword), very rare

The Sluggish Slasher is an artificially created Ooze that was found fusing with a magical sword, using it as a host and utilizing the enchantment to siphon magical energy to sustain itself. It was found in one of Astra Laevantin’s abandoned labs. Based on a few notes found in that lab, it is suspected that the enchanter was planning to make a copy of the mighty ooze created by her mistress but ended up with a lesser version that she abandoned along with other failed prototypes. The ooze eventually grows by consuming other forgotten experimental creatures and artifacts for several decades until it settles with a defective item, a sword with a fast energy regeneration but can’t correctly produce its supposed magical effect as the output. The Ooze seems to gain sentience, but from the observation so far, it only has a level of intelligence equal to a 7 years old human child, and it gives a response when called by the name ‘Fran.’

You don’t have to attune to Sluggish Slasher. Instead, you must spend an hour trying to befriend the ooze and make a DC 15 Animal Handling check. On a failed check, you have a disadvantage on attack roll with this weapon and can’t use its abilities. You can make another Animal Handling check after you take a long rest.

You have a +2 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with this magic weapon. When you hit with it, the target takes an extra 1d6 acid damage.

Unpredictable. Once per turn, when you make an attack with an advantage, if the lower result is still enough to hit your target, the ooze will also lash out to slash at the target dealing 1d4 slashing damage and 1d6 acid damage.

Overcharged Mitosis. The ooze can absorb magical energy and split itself into up to 4 smaller ooze that moves using the absorbed energy. When you’re hit by a spell attack, you can use your reaction to gain resistance against the damage. The ooze will then split into 1d4 smaller ooze that carries a small part of the sword and spawn on an unoccupied space within 10 feet of you.

It’s considered a tiny creature with AC of 10, resistance to non-magical attack, immunity to psychic and acid damage, immunity to exhaustion, charmed, and blinded, deafened, and prone condition, 10 feet blindsight, 10 feet move speed, and climb speed, hit points equal to the damage you resisted when the oozes are spawned. It takes a turn simultaneously as you, and you can use your bonus action to command them to move. When a creature enters its blindsight radius for the first time in a turn or starts its turn within the radius. The creature has to make a DC 13 Dexterity saving throw. On a failed save, it takes 1d4 slashing damage and 1d6 acid damage.

Sentience. The ooze named ‘Fran’ is a sentient neutral good ooze with a Strength of 18, Dexterity of 10, Intelligence of 10, Wisdom of 14, and a Charisma of 16. It has blindsight and hearing out to a range of 30 feet. It can move on its own. It has a movement and a climbing speed of 10 feet.

The weapon communicates telepathically with any creature within its blindsight radius but can only send out a wave of emotion. It can create a pseudopod to interact with objects and its surrounding.

Personality. It has a level of intelligence equal to a 6 years old human child. It is shy and timid but will be very friendly and protective once to those it’s considered a friend.
