Swordtember Day 13 - Sunken

Vengeful Voyager

Weapon (Greatsword), Legendary (requires attunement)
This ‘Sword’ was found and brought back by a group of scavengers who accidentally managed to get out of the ‘Whispering Horizon,’ a mysterious wandering pocket dimension that is often the cause of ships and airships' disappearance around the Cerulean Sea. According to a journal, they found, It was initially a part of a warship called ‘The Mirthful Maiden,’ which belonged to the Fyrmel Kingdom, which was conquered by the Azalis Empire around 200 years ago. The ship was a part of the Fyrmel royal navy that betrayed their kingdom and ran away from the battlefield. The vessel seemed cursed by the captain and crew that they killed for insisting on fighting for their honor till the end and their comrades that they abandoned. Weider of this sword can summon the Mirthful Maiden and its crew, who were hoping that by heeding the call now, they will somehow be forgiven. With that desperate hope, the Mirthful Maiden will sail anywhere it’s commanded, even on land.
—------------------------------------
When you’re attuned to this weapon, you gain a swimming speed equal to your walking speed, resistance to cold and necrotic damage, and can breathe underwater.
Forceful Enlist. When you or the Mirthful Maiden reduce the hit point of a humanoid creature to 0, you can use your bonus action to trap their soul as a new crew, and The sword gains 1 charge. You can use 1 charge to cast the spell Summon Undead, the spell attack modifier you use for this spell is +5, and the spell DC is 18. You can also cast the spell at a higher level by spending 1 additional charge per spell level.
Mirthful Maiden. You can spend 1 minute calling the ghost ship The Mirthful Maiden. Mirthful Maiden is a Warship (DMG pg.119), and it appears along with all of its undead crews. You’re considered proficient with the ship, and the crew will follow your command but can only use their action to operate the ship. The vessel stays until it’s unsummoned by spending another 1 minute or until it’s destroyed. When it’s destroyed, it’ll take 1d4+1 days before it can be summoned again.
You can call the Mirthful Maiden even on land. It’ll appear along with a water vortex surrounding its hull in a 10-foot radius when summoned on land. The water is a 30 feet-deep pocket dimension filled with a shipwreck on its bottom.
When you dismiss the ship, any creature and object that do not originally belong to the ship or the pocket dimension will be spilled out safely to adjacent unoccupied spaces.
Etherealness. As an action, you can make The ship and every object and creature aboard it enter the Ethereal Plane from the Material Plane or vice versa. It is visible on the Material Plane while in the Border Ethereal, and vice versa. While in this state, it can move through other creatures and objects as if they were difficult terrain. Creature and object take 5 (1d10) force damage if it becomes corporeal within an object, while the ship takes 5 (1d10) per 5 feet square of it that still within an object. While it’s in the border ethereal, the ship and everything on board gain resistance to non-magical damage, but any damage dealt by them to creature or object in the material plane are also halved. When an object or creature steps off the ship, it automatically returns to Material Plane.

This is a wonderful legendary item. The moment you introduce this to a game, the game's course is bound to change. Whoever owns this would always have an escape route and a battle-ready vessel on call with just a moment of free time, perfect for transitioning to a naval game, (although not one limited to the seas) I'd make this item the grand prize for hunting down a rumored ghost ship attacking landlocked towns and felling its captain. Such a Good ghost ship idea, and it's a gorgeous old blade too.

to be honest, it took me quite some time to reach this design. almost went with the anchor and deep sea creature route, but since I just did a sea creature theme yesterday, I decided to go hard on the ship theme and make it lean toward beauty/decorative rather than dark/decay. also kinda inspired by davy jones ship and blackbeard's sword from Pirate of The Caribbean.

Honestly i had low expectations about the "sunken" theme but i didnt expect it to be use in such a beautiful way. This sword looks beautiful i love it 😁👍
