Octobow Day 6 - Reptile

Dripping Death

Weapon (longbow), very rare (requires attunement)

Crafted from the remains of a Giant Jade Viper, this massive longbow, which is known as Danshtra or Dripping Death, serves as both a weapon and a status symbol among the lizardfolk of the Greenmoss Swamp. Its limbs are reinforced with the serpent’s bones, its frame adorned with the preserved heads and spines of venomous creatures that roam the marsh, and the whole weapon is blessed by the tribe’s elder shamans.

The Giant Jade Viper is feared even by dragons for its venom—a toxin said to burn both flesh and spirit. Through ancient rites, the shamans preserve the viper’s venom glands, allowing them to continue producing a diluted form of the deadly poison. Though less potent than the living creature’s bite, the magic-infused venom can still wound the soul and pierce the natural immunities of even the most resilient creatures. Within the Greenmoss Swamp, where every creature has adapted to survive the mire’s natural toxins, weapons like this are crucial for survival, relied upon by those who make their living hunting among the swamp’s dangers.

-------------------------------------

You gain a +2 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with this magic weapon. Each hit with this weapon deals an extra 1d6 poison damage. Poison damage inflicted by this weapon and its features ignores resistance to poison, and creatures normally immune to poison instead take half damage.

Envenomed Arrow. The longbow has 3 charges. As a bonus action, you can expend 1 charge to coat an arrow with magical venom. The next time you hit a creature with that arrow, it must succeed on a DC 16 Constitution saving throw or be poisoned for 1 minute. At the end of each of its turns, the poisoned creature repeats the saving throw, ending the effect on a success. This venom seeps not only into the body but also the soul, tormenting both flesh and spirit. Constructs are unaffected by this feature. Creatures normally immune to the poisoned condition aren’t immune to this effect, but instead have advantage on the saving throws.

While poisoned by this effect, the venom courses unnaturally through the creature’s body and soul, producing one of the following random symptoms at the start of each of its turns (roll a d6):

  1. Sluggish Limbs. The creature’s speed is halved until the start of its next turn.

  2. Muscle Lock. The creature takes 1d6 poison damage and can’t take reactions until the start of its next turn as its muscles seize.

  3. Convulsive Agony. The creature takes 2d6 poison damage as spasms wrack its body.

  4. Pain Surge. Until the start of its next turn, each time the creature makes a weapon attack, it takes 1d6 poison damage as venom surges through its veins.

  5. Bleeding Eyes. The creature is blinded until the start of its next turn as dark blood seeps from its eyes, obscuring its vision.

  6. Critical Surge. When you roll a 6 on this table, roll 2d6 until you get two different results other than 6. The creature suffers both effects.

The longbow regains 1d3 expended charges daily at dawn.
