These posts never get easier, or less painful to write. It never stops hurting, having to tell you all that we had to say goodbye because itโs never enough time, never.
This morning we had to say goodbye to our beloved Shiloh; although he was only boarded with us at this time, he arrrived at Saveafox at just 9 months old, as a fur farm rescue and we all fell for him immediately.
For those unaware, Shiloh was a sapphire ice colour morph, and because he was one of the first of his kind, there was no way to know how much affect the sapphire genes he carried would have on his health. Until this weekend, the only thing we ever needed to help Shiloh with was chronic diarrhoea, which, if you recall, afflicted Mouse too.
This weekend we noticed that he was not himself and his body temp was very low; yesterday afternoon I rushed him to the emergency vet. They ran bloods on Shiloh and it revealed that he was in total kidney failure; we were all devastated, not least his adopter, Shawna. He last had bloods drawn by his vet in Florida this past summer and there was nothing of concern; he was also seen by our vet in September and was fine.
Just like Mouse, Shiloh was well until he wasnโt and when he wasnโt, he went over a cliff and just like Mousey, he wasnโt even 3 years old.
His adopter, Shawna, flew straight up from Florida and she and I were with Shiloh today, right until the end. We held him and told him how much he is loved by so many and then he went to sleep. We like to think Mousey was waiting for him, to help him and welcome him.
We are so, so heartbroken at the loss of Shiloh. Please take some time today to think of him.
