Batman vs. the Monster 5

(Batman awakens and slowly begins to recognize his situation, although he can hardly believe it. He attempts to protest and demand answers but not only does he feel groggy at the effects of what he suspects are heavy and unknown drugs, the thickness of the aquariums glass prevents him from being heard)

Creature: "Now, Batman, I know you are certainly upset and terribly confused. Do not fret, I do not intend to imprison you in your aquarium for long. It is simply temporary so that I might be able to explain to you our mission and your new purpose. The land animals, namely your species, we do not wish to war with; however, it is indisputable your impact on the citizens of the sea. Our entire habitat, a habitat three times larger and more varied than your own, is at critical risk due to the greed and negligence of humankind. You pollute, pillage, exploit and hunt us. This, you must agree, is unacceptable. You label us monsters, creatures, unthinking and primitive and thus there is no need to treat us in any way with dignity. The mermaids, once the most magnificent of all creatures for their beauty, are extinct. They are extinct because of mankind! So much has been taken away from my kingdom, and while man cannot give everything back, justice demands that we recoup what we can. You, Batman, along with the other shipmen you were searching for, are the necessary sacrifice to recover the greatest of what was lost. The mermaids live again! As a leader of the land dwellers, it is your responsibility to take on their sins and accept the sacrifice for the good of a race erased by man's irresponsibility. Take pride in your new form and your new purpose: to grow your magnificent race and to lead it to its former station in the sea kingdom."

(Batman attempts to break through the glass but the attempts are comically in vain)

Creature: "Now, now Batman. Ever defiant. Reason can sometimes work slowly. In time you will come to see. For now, you may stew in your confined space. Do be careful, however, you cannot survive for more than a few minutes without being submerged in water. And, well, you'll find that in your new form you won't be able to get very far without the use of your old legs."

(As the Sea King walks away Batman can only mouth the words: "You monster!")
