An inquiry!

Hello friends! I’ve got to say, all these new books I’ve picked up have motivated me to continue writing my own. I dropped the idea for a thought that I’d recreate it through a game system instead, but the company was incredibly unprofessional and had no support for their creators, so I quickly ditched that idea so that I didn’t continue to confuse my storyline in my own head. That being said!

I’m curious, as I’ll release any written works through the higher Patreon tiers before I share them anywhere else, what is your preferred reading style? I’ve taken notice that a lot of fiction stories I’m reading are somewhat between first and third perspectives, sometimes dredging up a scene or two where it almost feels like both at once.

I enjoy writing in both first and third, but I wanted to know what you all prefer the most while I plan out what stories I want to put to draft!

For a bit more example and clarity, written in first perspective, I would be focusing more on describing what the character feels. With third perspective, I would go more into detail about what is around them and somewhat less focus on what they specifically see.

You know pretty soon you are going to have to clone yourself. If thats not possible then a controlled burn so you don’t burn yourself out. I used to stay up all night coding and I would come to a glitch. I would have to walk away from it. I would wake up in the middle of the night with the answer. I always keep a notepad by my bed in case that happens. Just a suggestion.

As a writer myself I will say writing third gives you less limitations on things to be described and seen. However with first person putting you into the place of the character you can use that lack of information to create twists and such

GhostGirl99

Ok, that sounds amazing if you're up for it.

Divertente ma non so come fare a convinxere gli altri a stare con me

I usually prefer first person, especially if it’s written in a way that doesn’t make the character omniscient. I like being blindsided when a character is. That being said, though, some of my favorite books are in third person, because it lets me feel like I’m personally in the world rather than in someone’s shoes. Ultimately though, it’s up to you!

Very not! It was fine but there was very little communication and a lot of rail roading my story. The editing was pretty intense, they wanted very specific and very short lines, which I was very against. I received feedback that my readers didn’t like it and they told me I could redo my first three episodes if I wanted to. And I did not want to LOL it wasn’t worth it to give my work to that company for free when they just on-boarded me and then left me to figure things out on my own

Vixen

Did you not like dorian? Just curious.

I think it really depends, I find if the whole plot is from a singular perspective, it’s better to do first person. If it alternates between characters, i prefer third person ~ either way im excited to read it!

Two separate short stories would be cool! It could give a lil sneaky peaky on how those characters would be presented in those perspectives.

A worthy mention: What if I released two separate short stories in either format and redid this poll after?👀

Vixen

I liked your Skyrim fanfic so in that style I guess

ColeD 501

Right! I feel the same, I enjoy relating myself to the scene but at the same time I’m not sure if other readers may value the scene descriptions more? It’s a tight line but I’m excited to try for both!

Vixen

Appreciate you being here no matter what platform! And thank you for the support 🥹🫶 I hope to work on putting out my own novel within the next few years!

Vixen

Ooh tough choice for me. I really like first person for me to relate to the character more. But on the other hand, I feel like the description of the surroundings in third person is better at times.

Still financially unable to join a paid tier but I am interested in reading what you write.
