That is so true. It really could be. The chickens :D I absolutely agree with you. It´s so interesting how this show makes you feel like your watching an episode if Dr. Who, and then again your not. Because they do get way more serious and cover dark themes, too. I really do like that concept. Thank you for the info about Gareth Thomas. I have never heard or seen him before. So it´s always interesting to get some insight into "new" actors :)

However, this story certainly gets a Torchwood spin with Owen getting obsessed with tracking down a rapist/murderer and the cascade of consequences from that. Throw in Bernie's vision of his own death, and a flock of chickens and you get a Torchwood script. (ok - the chickens probably don't contribute that much to the Torchwood look and feel) The Old (current time) Ed Morgan is played by Gareth Thomas who is best known for his role in the other 1970s BBC Science Fiction series "Blake's 7" which was created by the same writer that originally created the Daleks.
