Tochwood Season 1 - Episode 11

And then Torchwood gets dark again. Yes, the shots of Tosh and Jack walking through the warehouse were very cool. I didn't find the plot conclusion, that it was a fight club, very satisfying. But it is interesting that the viewer now feels some sympathy towards the weevils especially the scene in Mark's house. You wouldn't have thought that was possible earlier in the series. The episode makers mentioned they wanted the fighting to be very raw - but that meant they had to be extra careful because of the damage that would happen to the prosthetic masks if they were forcefully punched in the face. About the Gwen issue. I can't justify what she did although we can understand her deciding to do it. Where did she get the idea of talking with no consequences? Recently, in "They Keep Killing Suzie" that's what Suzie had done to Max each week - Suzie continues to screw up Gwen's life. And in retrospect, I don't know that Gwen would feel better even if Rhys did forgive her and then passes out and forgets - wouldn't Gwen just feel that this was an empty confession with no ongoing forgiveness in their relationship? I don't think she would feel good in either outcome.

I can also understand why Gwen did what she did. But it´s just such a sick and manipulating way to get what she wanted. She should be able to live with the consequences of her actions. She is a grown woman but isn´t mature enough, to do what needs to be done. (Ending the relationship) At this point Rhys is not more than a convinience to her. I really hope she will make better decisions in the 3rd season. :) I can imagine that a job like this will change you as a person. They are working under extreme circumstances. And on the one hand I really like, that the characters are portrayed in a non perfect, more realistic way. On the other hand, I´m so used to the perfect world and perfect characters in other shows, that it´s really difficult to appreciate that fact while watching. But I should appreciate it, because it´s such a rare thing to find. :) I like Tosh, too. :)

I think you're right that Gwen wanted to see if Rhys would forgive her without the risk of what would happen if he didn't. It was very irresponsible and she had no right to do it but I can understand her reasons and her rather desperate state of mind. I think there's a theme throughout this series that the extreme nature of their job changes the people who do it. Tosh is definitely my favourite character of the group and the least appreciated, especially by Owen. I didn't hate this episode but the Fight Club plotline didn't appeal to me.
