Dr. Who Series 4 - The Sontaran Stratagem

Yeah the first two parter of the new series, and it couldn´t be any more confusing. I mean, Martha? I had so many scenarios in my head, but non of them included Martha. I didn´t see this one coming, AT ALL :)

I liked him, too. I´m sad he died. Please do not write any kind of spoilers in the comments. Nothing regarding the future. But thank you for your comment. :)

Bernard Cribbins Born: December 29, 1928 in Oldham, Lancashire, England, UK Died: July 28, 2022 (age 93) in England, UK I really liked his appearance in the series Doctor Who (I haven't seen it elsewhere) I'm sorry that he died, but he did a lot between us, maybe he will continue elsewhere... Unfortunately, you can't look up the obituaries because of the danger of spoilers! But I'll give you a spoiler: November 23, 2023 On this day You might see it again

Yeah Martha :) I´m already looking forward to rewatching those episode with the knowledge of the Classic episode, and see things that I couldn´t see before :) Haha that fake out exit really got me. :D The writers are soooo mean :D Yes it´s so interesting that her family knows the doctor already. I was most surprised that her grandpa is the man from the Titanic episode. Thank you for the clarification about Martahs husband :)

And Martha comes back - and Martha's music theme. Hooray! When Doctor Who came back the producers were concerned not to overload the stories with too many references to the Classic series in order to avoid alienating viewers who wouldn't understand them. By this point they felt more confident that they could throw in obscure references which only the Classic fans would notice. So, when "Skorr", the Sontaran, says of Martha "the female has a weak thorax" - it is a reference to the first Sontaran story - and the Classic fans went "yay!". Donna's fake-out companion exit. This is why we like watching reactions. Everyone gets faked out by that, hoping the Doctor will convince her to stay - until it turns out she is just going to see her family. And I love the way that all of Donna's family know the Doctor - from various episodes. The Judoon are more of a private police force than a war race. Although, as I recall, fans wondered whether they would be the New Who Sontarans as all they marched into the hospital - until one of them took the their helmet off and we saw a space-rhino. Martha mentions that she's engaged to Tom Milligan. He was the person that she met in the original timeline in "Last of the Time Lords" after walking the Earth for a year. In the reset timeline, Martha had given him a call near the end of that episode (I can't recall if this was in the cut-down episode edit or not) - and now she's engaged to him.

Well I guess I might watch the introductory story, it would be really interesting. But I don´t know at the moment. :) Thank you for telling me about the similarities from New Who to Classic Who regarding the Sontarans. And about the Classic episodes: I am a little behind with the Classic episodes plan at this point. Eversince I´ve had Covid I do struggle with my health, and have not been able to record and edit episodes 2-3 weeks ahead. Which means I had no additional time at all, to record anything else than Dr. Who and Torchwood, to get them ready every weekend. I´m slowly making progress in the last two weeks, but it might take some more weeks until I will be able to finally record additional stuff like Classic episodes. But I´m really looking forward to it :)

I din´t know that saying, learned something new again, thank you :) You are right is was made clear that the doctor knows the Sontarans. :) And I absolutely loved the comeback of Martha, I didn´t expect that at all :)

We have a saying in the UK that sometimes you can wait ages for a bus to arrive and then three arrive all at the same time. I'm sure that doesn't happen in Germany. Anyway, we are always adapting that cliché to other situations. In this case, of course, we wait for Martha to return and then find that we have two, both at once. The don't know how much you want to know about either the Sontarans or UNIT but I think it was made clear that the Doctor is very familiar with both of them. I love it when new Who has call-backs to old stories from earlier eras. It's not the most amazing episode but having both Donna and Martha - and Wilf! - makes it special in my estimation. Sonta Ha!

Welcome to the Sontarans - another fan favourite from Classic Who :) (I'm going to take a hunch and guess that you'll be watching their introductory story at some point ) As they explain, they're a clone race of soldiers. They're not evil as such - but they have been bred (programmed) for war; and,for them, they can never resist warring with other races,as the urge is literally in their blood. I enjoy this story - certainly one of my favourites from the 10th Doctor era. Its probably because its very traditional 'old school' Who. The prominent role of UNIT; the Doctor talking about how he used to work for them, back in the 70's (or thereabouts); the Sontarans; the probic vents on the backs of their uniforms, which make them vulnerable. All these things were neat call-backs and continuity details - particularly to the 3rd Doctor's era. In fact, this whole story has a very '3rd Doctor vibe' about it. On the subject of your watching an introductory story: I know you have no clue when you'll be watching your next Classic serial; but, well....
