I heard already, and I´m very sad. I really do like his character a lot. I have the impression he was a very talented and kind and loveable man.

Yes it really is. I liked it. Oh and I hope I will remember all the scenes from new Who, when I´m watching the Classic episode. I really want to understand those jokes :)

Nicologik

Yes it really is a good story. :) Thank you for the explanation of Lukes sacrifice. I really didn´t understand why he did what he did, while watching so thank you :)

I´m so sorry he died, I really like his character. :( Thank you for the clarification of Clone Martha. I was wondering why she did that while watching. Ooohhh thank you for THAT clarification, too. I am sorry I missed that line, but the "Are you my mommy" joke was just way to good :D Haha I really liked that Sontaran pronounciation joke, even without knowing about the Classic Who reference. But that makes it even funnier, thank you :) :D I love when I always say "Did you see that" although you probably have seen the episodes 100 times already. And I´m talking to the audience as if they were watching it for the first time together with me :D But I keep on doing it. :D I didn´t see that screen credit though. Oh ups, you´re right they´re engaged. Yes I vividly remembered that clue scene. And yes when I say "I love this show", I really mean it, and I´m happy that I can prove it from time to time :D :D Thank you for the clarification about the Luke scene. I really didn´t understand why he did that, but it makes sense after reading your explanation. :)

The wonderful Wilf - played by Bernard Cribbins :( The Clone Martha has to give the Colonel the delayed "Code Red Sontaran" message because she realises that the Doctor is about to return - and the Doctor will have expected the Colonel to have received the information. While you were rolling around on the floor at the "Are you my mummy?" line, the Colonel said that UNIT had replaced their ammunition with ones with a "rad-steel coating" to avoid the gun jamming issue. I think this is a subtle callback to a Classic story where UNIT talked about having miscellaneous special-purpose ammunition. My favorite anecdote from the first Sontaran Classic Who story is that the director stopped filming briefly when he disagreed with the Sontaran actor about how "Sontaran" should be pronounced. The actor answered that as HE was the Sontaran - HE should know it is pronounced. And that's why we pronounce it with the stress on the second syllable. I like to think that the "Sontaran" mispronunciation gag from this story is a reference to this BTS anecdote. The brief view of Rose? - yes, we saw it too. And Billie has a screen credit for it. BTW Martha is engaged to Tom Milligan rather than married. You remembered that Mickey got his clues from the Doctor about what to do in the same way in "The Age of Steel" - you're really getting into this show! And Luke Rattigan: The Doctor inspires people to be better people. He tells Luke "Do something clever with your life" which I think spurs Luke to rewire the teleport and switch places with the Doctor at the last moment.

It's a good story all round and as Ian says, plenty of call backs to please the fans. I think the young guy, Luke, sacrifices himself in the end because his dream has been shattered and he finally realises how wrong he has been all along. He either wants to atone for what he's done or he just has no reason to live any longer. Maybe both.

He was part of my childhood in the 1960s with his comic songs and went on to be loved in so many roles on TV and film. Playing Wilfred was wonderful in itself but also because it gave him such an international fandom at last.

I find this a solid two parter; which probably appealed more to Classic fans, as it provides a lot of fan service to them. (For example,at one point the Doctor asks about the Brigadier. This continuity point delighted long-time fans; and, once you've met the character in your Classic viewing, you'll see why). You're quite right - part one establishes the threat; part two resolves it. It's solid storytelling; but not especially remarkable.

Very sadly,Bernard Cribbins (Wilf) passed away just two days ago :( He was 93,and will always be an absolute legend.
