Torchwood Season 2 - Adam

Hi everyone, what a great episode. And I am so sorry for the short afterthoughts. I hope I covered most of what I wanted to say about it. Otherwise I will talk about the rest before going into the next one. For example I forgot to say something about that wonderful Owen scene. That was such a cute one <3

Yes those Owen/Tosh scenes gave me a strange feeling. I can´t really describe it, but I´m sure I liked this version of Owen much more :) Yes, maybe he bought the glasses and chlothes, hmmm... It´s true, that the Gwen and Rhys story was a shocking one. I can´t really imagine how I would feel, if something like that ever happened to me. I really hope the show will give those two some kind of break and let them just enjoy their relationship (At least for a few episodes :) ) Iantos fake memories were horrifying. And for us as a viewer it maybe wasn´t that bad, because we knew what was going on. But for him, beeing in that situation....I don´t even wanna begin, imagining how he must have felt in that moment. I can´t wait for any week. I´m always so curious. If it wasn´t for the reactions, I would have watched all episodes by now :D

Thank you So much for telling me about the intro. I usually don´t watch it, because I thought it´s the same every episode, so I check my recordings while it´s rolling. But I just now rewatched it. That is sooooo cool :D I wish I had seen it while recording. Just to make sure for future episodes. Should I always watch the intro, or was that the only time that it was "important"? I don´t want to know the exact episode or season, just in general :) I likes the Rhys and Gwen storyline, but I really want them to work out someday. Without any obstacles in their way :D Well yes, I really enjoyed puppy-dog Owen. At least he didn´t make me angry for once :D Ianto´s fake memories were really horrifying. I am so happy he didn´t have to live with that memories for long. He is such a nice guy, I can´t even imagine how he must have felt. Haha yes, I picked up on the Grey character. And I´m glad, too. Because I don´t want to miss anything. :) The flashbacks were cool, but they didn´t really say much about Jacks past. They were more like a teaser of what´s to come in (I hope) the near future :) A woman wrote that horrible "meat" episode? Wow, ok. I don´t know why, but somehow I´ve never seen a woman writing a story like this one. But yes, I seem to "enjoy" her episodes every single time. :) You´re right about the plot issue. I haven´t thought about that. But it´s true. Unless Jack didn´t visit Rhys off screen he should still remember. Hmmmm....

"Our memories define us" - Captain Jack Harkness In fact Adam, the memory manipulator, manipulated more than just the Torchwood team. Did you notice the Torchwood opening video montage ("outside the government, beyond the police") where they show the Torchwood team doing Torchwood stuff - was changed for this episode to include video clips of Adam doing Torchwood stuff as well? It's as if Adam had modified our (the TV viewer's) memories to appear that he had always been on the Torchwood team. I love that we see Rhys working to recover his relationship with Gwen. And when he rants at the checkout person it makes her laugh as before and she remembers - you can see that they might work it out (before the whole situation got reset anyway). Do we really want puppy-dog Owen in the series full time? It might get a bit too cute. Ianto's induced fake memories are horrifying. Gareth David-Lloyd plays it really well - as a person who remembers doing things which were against his nature. Perhaps we are defined by more than just memories after all. It was really interesting to see Jack's history. I was hoping you would pick up on the "Gray" character. Catherine Tregenna, the writer, also wrote "Out of Time" (with the plane from the 1950s), "Captain Jack Harkness", and "Meat". I think you probably ranked all of them fairly high [I just checked your rankings: 8.3, 9.2, 8.7, and "Adam" 8.7]. But there a plot issue in this one - they don't retcon Rhys so he would still know about Adam (Adam came to the flat) and he would also remember the period when Gwen didn't know him. And none of the team will remember they need to give him a pill. So it's going to be interesting when Gwen goes home. Or, perhaps Captain Jack went to see Rhys (unseen by us) before confronting Adam in the cells.

The Tosh/Owen reversal of roles is funny but kind of poignant too. He is much more likable here but in a sad tragic way. And where did he get the new clothes and glasses from? Maybe he bought them after the first day of his new persona. But I still find the idea of Gwen not remembering Rhys the most shocking thing about the episode. Can you imagine coming home to find a stranger in your apartment who claims to be your lover/fiance? Or preparing a meal and waiting for your girlfriend to come home only to have her threaten you with a knife and insist that you are an intruder? Utter nightmare. I suppose I should be more shocked by Ianto's fake memories but by that stage we knew what was going on and that he hadn't and wouldn't really do anything like that. I can't wait for next week!
