[A] (Mulakanti) - Planting Ceremony & Mulakanti Hideaway

You and Y’ko, your love interest, take part in the new year festival of taking and giving back: In the city square, the Mulakanti gather fruits and vegetables from various plants, each fruit or vege representing a virtue or trait an individual wishes to incorporate into their life. Once the produce has been gathered, each participant consumes what they picked, and discusses their hopes and dreams. They then plant seeds, to give back to Mother Xel (their planet). As you are half human, the Mulakanti surround you and greet your presence. Afterwards, it begins to rain as you and Y’ko make your way back to the ship. Y’ko leads you off the trail and takes you to a special place. It is a large tree that houses a hammock, a table, a warm sunstone, and shelves of scrolls and books. You share a moment of intimacy, before getting into the hammock for a cosy cuddle.

[B] (Krynk’vok) - Studying Unknown Anomaly & Toasting Marshmallows, Sharing History

You, a human, and your Krynk’vok colleague, Kappa, are currently stationed at one of the poles of Vydba Nexus. Your job is to study an unknown anomaly causing a strange blanket of fog and an eerie light. The rest of Vydba Nexus is celebrating the solar sweep holiday, but you and Kappa are too far away to take part. As a result, you find your own source of fun to pass the time. You take the opportunity to show Kappa what a “campfire” is in the thin oxygen layer that surrounds the research centre, and enjoy marshmallows and smores brought down from your human ship – treats unknown to the Krynk’vok. Conversation drifts to what made alien and human contact possible in the first place (the Krynk’vok had picked up TV signals from Earth in the early 21st century). Then, an unusual reading lights up your research panel, and you go to investigate.

[C] (Krynk’vok) - Hacking Competition with Older Sister

The Krynk’vok celebrate a year ending festival called AN’HAK’VEST. It is a day during which they attempt to hack each other’s minds worldwide, via their symbiosynth cores. It is a test of one’s wits, intelligence, defence, and hacking skills. The consequences of being hacked are kept intentionally harmless – they prank each other by filling one another’s brains with silly music or funny videos, or hack limbs to make rude gestures or do little dances. The spirit of the holiday is to make jest of each other, while simultaneously improving one another’s abilities. 

You are still too young to take part in AN’HAK’FEST, so you spend time supporting your older sister during the festivities. You watch Kal’eeh’mar, your sister, run diagnostics and show you the mischievous things she has in store for her classmates. During the festival, she reveals to you that she was able to hack many of her classmates. You watch the feed of her classmates doing silly dances and laugh at her funny memes. However, Kal’eeh’mar is not entirely immune herself, having been forced to listen to weird human music, dance the macarena, do push ups, and listen to corny jokes. In the aftermath, she reflects that no matter how good one thinks they are, there is still room to grow!

[D] (Mulakanti) - Romantic New Year with Mulakanti Wife

Celebrating the new year was a foreign concept to the Mulakanti, but after your contributions to their society, it has recently become a practice. You spend the night with your wife, enjoying dinner while listening to the sounds of the insects outside. You recount how you met: you were a knight, who was unfortunately sworn to serve a corrupt king. As you stood facing enemy troops, mages from the rival nation pooled their power and teleported you away…to a random destination. And that’s how you ended up on the Mulakanti home world! Your sudden appearance allowed you to save your now wife, as well as save their planet from dying. After dinner, you curl up together in your bulb bed. As midnight strikes, you cuddle, foreheads placed together, as you drift off to sleep.

[E] (Lyrithids) - Illumination of Liquid Tunnels, Dance, and Food

The Lyrithids celebrate each complete orbit of their ringworld around the black hole by illuminating the liquid tunnels of their world with streams of multicoloured bioluminescent energy, turning their entire ringworld into a glowing spectacle. You and your girlfriend, a Lyrithid performing artist, swim about as you communicate telepathically with your minds. You release memory orbs and light streams into the currents, then spend private time together beside the first coral platform you ever saw her dance on. She dances for you again, and you join her, then you swim to a Lyrithid buffet, where you curl your tails together and have algae jelly, saltwater nectar, and sweet-sea fruit, sharing a sweet, quiet moment.
