The typing test is decided by speed and accuracy of keyboard entries. Class C has 'The Professor' who is a computer nerd so they chose that as one they can win easily. In the English test, you can tell they intentionally threw that exam to preserve better students for later ones. The people selected for the English exam were pretty much just the dumb girls of the class. Then because they did this, they were able to go all out in the math test. They put in Yukimura, Mii-chan, Hirata, and Kushida. That is basically the best they could put out because Horikita is doing chess, they cannot count on Koenji to participate, and Kiyo is captain. Unfortunately they still lost Math. Miyake is in the archery club! The mental math is not remembering numbers, you have to add them up in the given time. The speed at which they were doing it is incredibly unrealistic for high school kids and the fact that three of them (Kiyo, Sakayanagi, and Koenji) got the final problem right makes them all world record holders basically.... It is done for drama pretty much haha. This is also when Matsushita (aka best girl) gets suspicious of Kiyo. She saw that he was able to get that last question correct!
