Nah, Usopp was trash here, and he was 1000% wrong. Luffy was not wrong in any way. Usopp fought against Luffy harder than any opponent he ever had. Usopp -20 respect

I guess it was only in that very moment that he thought back to all his past fighting experiences and combined them here. Plus the huge power up he gained from the dials from skypiea it was his moment there. All the build up from Oda was to showcase Usopp's strength here. Still it shows that if he really wanted to, Usopp could have make his own fighting style much sooner and not spend all his time enjoying his youth. He said he wanted to be a brave warrior but it's kinda hard to believe him like that. I guess that Oda wanted to make a monster trio stay the trio they are but he could have make Usopp a little bit better than this. Usopp is still my favorite character, he's the normal one of the group and his jokes are what makes this show fun. But after this when it gets serious he's not my favorite character anymore, still top notch though.

2022-11-26 09:28:40 +0000 UTCThis set of episodes was hard to watch the first viewing, and still hurts enough to bring tears to my eyes every time. I really love how Zoro and Sanji stepped up here, though, from Sanji telling Luffy off for almost saying something awful towards Usopp--even if it was too late, he tried--and Zoro keeping Luffy set in his stance as captain, to remain his ground despite how much it was hurting Luffy to cut ties with a good friend. This is why I think Zoro and Sanji make such a good duo together, as the most mature on the ship.

2022-11-24 22:20:07 +0000 UTCIts only because they knew trying to explain to Usopp in the first place was going to be incredibly difficult and painful, I personally cant blame Luffy for trying to dance around the topic instead of just straight up saying it, clearly the Merry means so much more to Usopp but Luffy cares almost just as much but is also aware that unless they get a new ship everything will just fall apart which would hurt much more, its not like Luffy really wanted this and is now suddenly enthusiastic about getting a new ship its just that Usopp was not going to accept it no matter how they tried to explain. Though tbh you're kinda right though it really wasnt the greatest way of going about it and it probably would of been better to just come out and say it and let him vent his anger instead of letting the frustration build up until the breaking point.

2022-11-24 21:27:17 +0000 UTCThe one criticism I have is that it took them way too long to tell Usopp that the Merry cannot be repaired anymore, when Luffy finally told him Usopp was already agitated and arguably over the edge. The entire confrontation might have been avoided if they had explained to Usopp that the keel is broken and what that means instead of leading with "Yo, we're buying a new ship, look at the catalog!"

2022-11-24 19:45:39 +0000 UTCI was spoiled about the infighting between Usopp and Luffy but that scene on the ship still destroyed me, what comes next in this arc is also really fukin good specialy a scene that in retrospect sets up a charecter dynamic so well.
