We're kicking off Spielbruary with another movie about aliens, but this time Reese's Pieces are out and mashed potatoes are in.
Micah has never seen Close Encounters of the Third Kind, and I haven't seen it since I was a kid, but boy has that little theme song been stuck in my head for my entire life!
Featuring Richard Dreyfuss in this year's hottest Halloween costume and a blink-and-you'll-miss-it cameo from Bob Balaban, this movie is over two hours of extraterrestrial edging until the big finale blows your mind.

You made the joke but I for real thought this was the third in a trilogy as a kid. I was so confused why we only saw things for this one and not the first two. haha

When the Five Notes finally get the big John Williams treatment as the mothership flies away, it feels like Spielberg is being crowned the King of Hollywood. "Jaws wasn't just a fluke. This guy's got the juice!" (And then he goes and immediately makes a stinker like 1941, which is hysterical.)
