Inspired by the bits that didn't age as well in Just Friends, my sister Jillian & I are continuing our educational research into whether or not various 2000's movies could be made today by watching a movie we KNOW has to have aged like milk.
Shallow Hal asks the question "what if larger people deserved love?" and it doesn't really answer that question so much as just keep asking it. Starring Jack Black, Gwyneth Paltrow in a f*t suit, and George Costanza, this movie would certainly be difficult to rewrite and make work in 2025... but I do think it's possible! Maybe!

2025-05-25 23:37:31 +0000 UTCOne of those weird situations where you can tell the movie is making a real effort to have a good message, but there's only so far it can go due to being made when it was. And I remember even back then, a lot of critics called out that for all its speechifying about how inner beauty is what really matters, the nasty women appearing ugly to Hal still gives the message that looks are what count.
