Freyja & The Morrighan: Witch Box Project

Hey Guys!

December 11th marked a special day for my girl and I, as it was our first anniversary together! Shortly after followed my birthday, and then Christmas. December was a busy month!

Which means, I started putting together the most belated anniversary/christmas gift that a dyke has ever made for her girlfriend. 

My girlfriend is very into witchcraft. Namely, her patron goddess is the Morrighan (who is often symbolized with crows) and she has an altar with a lot of knives and celtic-knot related things. So I got an idea to make her a special, custom-engraved box that I'm working on filling with goodies 

But, because I'm extra, and the reason that this is taking so long, is because I'm making EVERYTHING from scratch. And I mean everything. I even went to Lowe's and bought 1/4" birch plywood, and made the cut the pieces/sanded them, and assembled the box with brads and wood glue!

Here's some assembly pictures of the box after it's been assembled. I still need to attach the front doors with hinges on the side, as well as the latch that they'll open up with.

The Morrighan-themed crow design will be engraved on the FRONT side of the box using pyrography, (so it'll split in half when the doors are open) and the Freyja-themed box will go on the back. The borders of the box will have this simple celtic knot border design burnt onto them:

I'm heading out to the store today to pick up hinges, felt (for lining the inside of the box) and a few other small things. When I get back today, I'm hoping to start work by tracing the designs onto the box with carbon paper and then burning them in. After that, I have some wood stain conditioner and some cherry/mahogany wood stain that will go over it nicely and get a beautiful rich, deep hue.
