Black Lives Matter

I've come to realize that my art & social platforms are often not involved in race-related causes. Unknowingly, my silence on important matters has been giving power to the oppressor.
My whiteness is privelege. I've had struggles in my life before, sure, but never because of the color of my skin. I've never had to fear for my life at the hands of any authority as a white person. But for my friends, my loved ones, and the members of my queer and art communities who are people of color, they do. This is real for them, this is their reality that they've faced their entire lives. And we do them a disservice when we don't talk about it, when we don't speak up against these injustices.
Black lives matter. So does their art, their culture, their music, and their education. Most of all, their life, and their happiness. Support your black artists, your black musicians, your black writers. Celebrate black lives and black accomplishments. Support black endeavors and black businesses.
When black people try to tell you about what they're going through and the way that the world is treating them, it is not your place to tell them they're wrong, or that it's their fault. Realize that sometimes, it's not your place to speak- but rather, to listen.
Listen to black voices.
Support black lives.
