Full Of It #148 - The Disappearance of Amelia Earhart

Amelia Earhart was an American aviator and author most noted for disappearing during her ill-fated final flight over the Pacific Ocean in 1937 - which remains unexplained to this day. I feel like this discussion ends with a kind of yeeeeah but we can probably explain enough, right? Some potentially erroneous information and evidence has cropped up over the 80+ years since her disappearance but rather than celebrating her other lasting contributions to society in the form of founding The Ninety-Nines and encouraging generations of women aviators, people just will not relinquish the mystery of her vanishing.

I think it’s weird that so many people know about her. Male driven education rarely focuses on historic female figures so the story of a groundbreaking aviatrix always seemed like a weird starting point. Thinking about it now, I think the main two we learnt about were Amelia and Cleopatra 🤷🏻‍♂️ I think a lot of it is the fact that Amelia disappeared. You become more of an oddity or an object to gawk at when you die mysteriously which grosses me out. Either way, the only two historic female figures I need to know about are the gorgeous silhouettes belonging to you and nova 😉 fab pod my lovely x

I don’t have any comments directly related to this episode in particular, but I just wanted to say thank you for these podcasts. I’ve been going through old episodes and I love that I can listen to any episode again and enjoy it just as much as the first time. I’ve just listened to episode 83, the port Arthur massacre one. Someone in the comments suggested the Daniel Morcombe case as a topic for a pod and I’d like to put that forth again. Thanks again, much love.
