Lucifer Season 5 Episode 9 Family Dinner

Comments

Family Dinner- Thank you so very much for your reaction to this amazing episode of season five, Jessie!! Like always... Tom Ellis is phenomenal!! I really enjoyed getting a feeling for the kind of man God is throughout this episode. Dennis Haysbert as God is a fantastic choice! And God certainly seems like a good man, but He certainly hasn't been a very good father, and it appears He's just now coming to discover how badly He's messed up with His children. And poor Lucifer. Wow... Tom Ellis is just incredible towards the end of their family dinner, as well as in the very ending between him and Chloe too!! I love seeing him finally being able to confront his father about what's so deeply been troubling him. And while Lucifer really could have gotten all the more angry, and there are so many questions that Lucifer could have asked him... Why did You cast me out of the Silver City an send me to Hell? Why did You put Chloe in my path? What is Your endgame? And yet, Lucifer digs deep down and simply yet tragically asks if their father has ever truly loved them. And because God simply answers with yet another vague answer, Lucifer sadly comes to believe that his father isn't capable of love, and therefore he isn't capable of love either. That he isn't capable of loving Chloe, which is why he's been unable to say I love you to Chloe. Thanks to his father, as well as from the realizations he gains from their case. While Lucifer coming to this belief is frustrating for us as this show's viewers, I really do understand why he feels this way. And for me, it's far more tragic than frustrating. We've seen all the good in Lucifer and we know everything he's done for Chloe as well as for everyone else in his life that Lucifer truly cares so deeply about. So, of course we all know how deeply he truly loves Chloe. However, Lucifer has never felt love from his father and his siblings, who all hate him aside from Amenadiel and Azrael. Just like I suspected. And now, because he feels like he is more like his father than Lucifer ever realized before, he feels all the more incapable of feeling loved and of loving someone else, including Chloe. I am really loving the direction of the second half of this season. Especially in regards to Lucifer's and Chloe's storyline, even though their relationship sadly once again takes another difficult hit. I also really love Lucifer's storyline involving God, Michael, and Amenadiel too!! So, so much! Also... I really love the moment when Lucifer and Michael are arguing back and forth before God stops them, as Lucifer reveals to us why Michael moves and walks with his right shoulder higher than the other... because he carries a chip on his shoulder so vehemently, that his infliction comes from his own self actualization. Brilliant! Next... I absolutely love the awkwardness at their family dinner, especially coming from Linda, who is so adorable and funny. As is Amenadiel too. I love how Chloe is making an effort to help Lucifer, only to discover that she is the one who has messed up this time by trying to push Lucifer much too hard, too fast in trying to get him over his family issues. I also love that while Chloe didn't initially allow Lucifer to express his feelings after finding at LUX in the beginning when he had run away from the station, Chloe does quickly come to understand that Lucifer wasn't upset or angry with her, but at his family upon listening to Lucifer taking his emotions and anger out on the family in their case. In regards to Maze and her coming before God to ask him for a soul... While I do want to feel sorry for her and her moment upon being turned down is sad, I am still angry with her for once again turning against Lucifer and Amenadiel in the previous episode, titled... Spoiler Alert. For me... Maze is going to have to work hard to redeem herself if this is the show's plans for her, before she earns her way back into my good graces. Ella's storyline is very good and I am loving seeing her struggle from what's happened with Pete, while trying to overcome her own pain. It's so sad, but I love Dan's talk with her inside her lab when he tries to remind her of how truly good and lovely she really is, and pleads with her to not allow her pain to change her. So beautiful!!! I love it!! And lastly... I love seeing Dan growing used to knowing the celestial truth, especially about Lucifer now that he has to get used to the idea that the Devil is working alongside them. And while it wasn't too long ago that Dan had shot Lucifer, it's nice to see them acting civilly and more like friends again. Overall... This is a fantastic episode, and I really enjoy it! Just as I really enjoyed watching your reaction for this episode too. So, thank you very much, Jessie! I can't wait for the rest of your reactions for the rest of this season!!! The next episode is a musical episode, and it's absolutely phenomenal! It's easily one of my favorite episodes from this season, as well as from the entire show overall too!! :) Thank you again, my dear friend! Sincerely, Heidi
