This set comes with quite a story.
Reed and I quickly became friends with David and Cat. They are a fellow creative couple the same as Reed and myself. David a photographer and Cat a model; both amazing at what they do. Some of you may have seen David in the show Dexter as his father's stunt double for the character Angel Batista.
We met David and Cat one night at a movie premier they invited us to. Reed and David were suppose to shoot that day but there were a couple scheduling complications in the morning, so we just met up with them to eat some popcorn and watch a newly released movie. Unfortunately, right when we approached the front of the line; the theater filled and we were not able to see the film. Thankfully right around the corner was our trusty dinner companion, Umami Burger. We sat down, and enjoyed a meal together for the first time ever. I have always been a strong believer that you do not truly know someone until you share a meal with them. Over the next hour or so we exchanged stories, likenesses and laughs. During this meal is when Reed and I discovered that David's father was the actor who played the character of Angel Batista in the television series Dexter. A meal well enjoyed by all of us and Reed and I walked away knowing we had met a new creative couple we could be friends with.
A couple weeks later Reed and David had their first shoot together at his apartment in Hollywood. They shot a few looks and ended up with a lot of great content! David and I geeked out about photo before, during and after the shoot and we even went out to dinner yet again, this time to Pink Taco on Sunset Boulevard. While we were at dinner enjoying some amazing cheese & bean dip and great tacos, David had mentioned that we should all shoot in the pool centered in the apartment complex. Over the next few hang outs and photo sessions; this idea has been brought up time and time again. We finally made it happen.
With David's dad wrapping up his current television show he had been working on, their lease on the apartment was also quickly coming to an end. A few days before their last in this beautiful space, Reed and I ventured to Hollywood to shoot at the pool. We arrived, changed into our suits and descended down to the ground level to enjoy the heated pool and shoot. David and I both shot Reed in her colorful one piece bathing suit at the same time. Surprisingly, David and I edited our photos almost the same from this day. The only difference was that I got into the pool and hovered my camera mere centimeters above the possibly destructive waters and shot some great photos with killer depth of field.
The photo session was quick, maybe a half hour at most. However, during this entire time there was another patron of the pool. Another resident of this apartment complex had come into the pool area and first used the hot tub for some time, but then hopped into the pool. He seemed to enjoy getting in our way and being near us which was quickly a nuisance. It seemed that wherever we wanted to be, he needed to be there in the same space as well. All of us promptly and actively ignored his presence throughout the shoot as we normally would.
After we wrapped up, picked up all of our gear and began packing out bags at the table by the entrance; this bystander had the inclination to venture over to the same exact table we were at, took a seat and began surfing the web on his phone. It made all of us quite uncomfortable, so we quickly left the area and headed back to David's apartment. Since the encounter made Reed so uncomfortable, she returned the favor and acted as if she was taking a photo of him from the second floor. He saw and immediately threw up his arms in contempt, disapproval and angst. We retreated into David's apartment and that was that... or so we thought.
A couple minutes later we heard a knock on David's door, and you can guess who it was. This person made his was up to the apartment and thought it would be a great idea to start an argument with David, a native New Yorker from the Bronx. I can say I am glad that this man chose his words wisely while speaking to David simply because it would not have ended up pretty for him. With about ten minutes or so worth of back and forth arguing; this asshole finally left and we were back on track with our night. What a better way to alleviate the stress of that situation than with cheese & bean dip at Pink Taco!
Writing this now makes me miss David and Cat. David now is back in New York working on several television series, Tag Heuer advertisments and absolutely killing the photo game. Cat just departed her lifetime California residence to be with David in New York and I am sure that I speak for myself and Reed, we only wish them the best.
I hope you enjoy this set, it came with a large story and quite a bit of stress that day. However, well worth it! Enjoy!
