Mothra vs Godzilla (1964) - Full Watch-along

Sorry for the reaction spam today! I figured since I did watch it, I should try to edit this one as well before the Godzilla Minus One movie night, so here it is!

I don't know... a real world moth... All up in my grill... I don't think I could take it... arms flailing all over the place...

I love it when reactors watch movies and TV shows, and listen to music, from the year I was born.

I grew up on "Creature Features" with host Bob Wilkins. Great program!

Again thanks for the reaction! I just binged this and your G54 reaction. There you wondered if future installments would be more just about monsters fighting and doing cool shit. Here you can see that coming into play. Still, incredibly fun. The quality of later Godzilla movies varies a lot. They never really return to the dark, super heavy serious tone of the original (at least not until recently). But they are usually fun, even when they get silly or campy. The old Godzilla movies are dear to my heart for nostalgic reasons. So, I don’t think you are old enough to to be familiar with this but, back in the 70s and 80s local TV stations would have to fill late night programming with their own stuff because their network affiliates wouldn’t have anything to air at those times. Many would, especially on Friday or Saturday nights, show cheaply licensed b-movies. Usually horror, sci-fi, or, you guessed it, kaiju movies. These would be “hosted” by a locally actor doing a horror/comedy character and schtick, making comments about the movie before and after the commercial break. Some went on to become nationally known figures like Elvira and Svenghoolie. (MST3K grew from this tradition) I have very fond memories of sneaking out of my room with my little brother past our bedtime to watch our local “Chiller Theater with Ned the Dead”. The Godzilla movies were our favorite.
