Simple Structure Everywhere
Added 2021-09-01 06:25:32 +0000 UTCHere's a big piece I haven't posed anywhere yet, and I wanted to give a little tip on simplicity when painting, especially in these big, more rendered pieces.
The only way to get really good at painting, I think, is to internalize drawing, and more specifically structure and construction, to the point where you don't have to think about it and use painting to show simple planes and forms. For example, here's a detail from the painting:
It's not a very anatomically correct bird, it's stylized, but it's believable enough because of it's simple and strong structure:
Also, notice the outline of both the bird and the hand there - it's sort of like manually painted chromatic aberration. I've noticed it works best when there's a light background or a backlight. You can use pretty much any saturated color you like (here I used mostly orange and blue/purple) and it creates a slight vibrancy that enhances the image and makes it more lively, but it's very subtle and not near as gimmicky as chromatic aberration.
I'll probably be posting a bit more in the coming period, but I think it's mostly going to be these really short tip things, like this one.

Thanks man! I just keep the quality on medium, if I had it on max, it would be around 15MB. Also, the contrast and color info on the image are a factor as well, perhaps this one is a bit smaller because there's little contrast in the whole middle part. It might also have to do with the picture having been CMYK while I was working on it and then converted to RGB, but I'm not sure

2021-09-01 09:30:17 +0000 UTCSplendid! I just downloaded the first image and noticed it has only 7MB on such a huge resolution. My images over 3000x already have 10MB. How do you compress it that much?
