Self Portrait Process and Thoughts on Improvement

Here's a video process of a self-portrait I recently finished, accompanied by my monologue about improvement in art and what I think it takes to become actually really good and not just intermediate. This one is kinda philosophical and maybe a bit different than what I usually do, but so much of art is personal and I don't see it talked about enough in this way.

PS. I'm continually figuring out how to make this mic sound good, so there's a bit of popping and clipping still, but I think it's getting better, soon enough it will sound impeccable! (hopefully)

Hey Denise, welcome to the patreon! Yeah, it's something everyone needs to be reminded of constantly I think, since we all have a very basic primal tendency towards becoming comfortable, complacent and arrogant while avoiding things we really need to confront

I definitely recognise myself in rejecting critique from people I think aren't skilled at art, and I also recognise myself in improving inside my comfort zone rather than stepping outside of it and working on expanding it more broadly. Those are definitely things I'll have to work on, and even though I was intellectually aware of it so to speak, it somehow takes someone else to point it out so directly for it to really hit home. Thank you for the video, I wasn't expecting this specifically but I do think I needed to hear it! :)
