Those early episodes often follow the old sci-fi show rule (much more prevalent in old Star Trek) to show a planet of a behavior that exists somewhere on Earth and then make a point about it how this behavior is outdated in a modern/civilized society. In this case the treatment of women. With a bit of luck you get a talented writer but sometimes the message just bangs you over the head with a sledgehammer.

2023-07-21 17:35:23 +0000 UTCSeason 1 of this moves kinda slow. They have episodes that introduce characters who will be expanded in the future but it’s a decent amount of stand alone. I guess I would compare this to Battlestar season 1 that they laid foundation and once they got more of the world established they could do bigger stories.
