And ya the pedo teacher is creepy but they make it creepy as we know it is in modern times. The teacher and Prissy wanting to be a thing is just kinda there in the book. Yes it is canon and at that time there were a lot of girls marrying older men it wasn't seen as quite that icky.

I don't think any of her previous foster families gave anything to her that wasn't necessary. Richard Farmsworth played Matthew in the 80s movies and he was also the sweetest. Gilbert is also a great character.
