I didn't like this movie as much as the first one, I didn't really like Fat Amy and Bumper's relationship, but I did like the scene with her singing to Bumper, I thought that was hilarious. I liked Hailee Steinfeld's character, because she's good at making characters likeable, I also thought she and Benji were adorable but highly underdeveloped, much like her character was, I feel like they didn't really do much with her. I feel like it made sense when she panicked during the riff off, she was already nervous and tried to talk to Becca earlier in the movie, plus based on that scene, she looked lost and didn't seem to know 90's hip hop, so when they pointed at her, she just panicked and sang the only thing she could think of, her song, maybe it would have worked better if she just froze and sang nothing, but sometimes when people panic they just say random stuff. I didn't really find the songs to be as good as the first movie, but i did still like them, however, I did love DSM, I thought they were great. They also didn't use Jesse at all in this movie, they probably shouldn't have brought him back, maybe they could have added a few extra scenes to Hailee and Benji. I feel like they were trying to tell a story with Hailee's character, she was being told by her mother that the Bella's would welcome her and make her feel like family, but because they were so stressed about trying to win the competition and because Becca was split between the Bella's and her job, largely because she wasn't telling them about it, when she should have. It left Hailee's character not feeling welcomed and like family, but floundering and uncertain and their was supposed to be a lesson learned from that. But I feel like that story was underdeveloped and left to the background. so it didn't really register or work that well and didn't really let us get to know Hailee's character.

2023-08-10 05:08:49 +0000 UTCi could never get into this one. it was just too weird. haley's character just felt so off to me. like they wrote her as having the worst case of main character syndrome ever lol why would she do her own song and ruin the "riff off" like that? and the ending, while it was nice to see the other bellas, i couldn't get behind the original song idea then either. the other groups all were doing well-known songs, songs that the audience could get hyped up to see. that's what these comeptitions are. the excitement for the audience omes in seeing how groups do special spins and takes on songs. last movie's final song was so good and felt like it tied the movie up so well. this one just felt...idk. i always sound so harsh when talking about this one but it just fell so flat to me, which sucks because the first one was such a high. like i still get goosebumps when they sneak "don't you forget about me" into the medely. it's a shame this one just didn't hit that mark to me.
