yes! one thing i love is that the storylines never feel "tired" or played out. it's always fresh because it's whole new characters with new personalities and experiences so it's really fresh. like for example (and this is just an example, not like a spoiler) take EDs. one character with an ED isn't going to have the same experience as a second character with an ED. each character feels like a unique person, very raw and real. so each new storyline, even if the gist of it or "genre" of storyline has been repeated, it's still told through new perspectives.

And I think usually the first two seasons of a 'class (our main characters) is introducing them. So for this 'class' the first two seasons we are introduced to our characters and most have 'main problems' they must face (marco being gay for example, paige's assault, sean being a troublemaker). After about the first two seasons with our cast, they extend on that story and we go through their life and the obstacles they face. So yes, the life lessons are the building blocks. Our cast, life real people, face multiple issues that often lead into more issues. Sort of like one tree hill, where theres overall storylines, but first we get to know them (and its better than one tree hill in my opinion).

2023-08-23 08:54:51 +0000 UTCIf you ever ask "does degrassi cover ___?" the answer is 99% of the time, YES. I can't think of a topic the show doesnt cover. And like someone else said, they reuse tons of topics and storylines and it's always in different ways, different angles, different types of people, etc. I love the show for that. The show raised me and I swear, it made me so open minded and I always think "this person is probably going through something" and i just love what its done for me as a person.

2023-08-23 08:29:50 +0000 UTCThere’s an interview that Adamo Ruggiero the guy who plays Marco did a few years ago on the steps of Degrassi and they asked him if he had any crushes on any cast members from back in the day and he said one of his first crushes was on Daniel Clark the guy who plays Sean. He said this was before he was out to so it’s kinda amusing how he has a crush on him in real life at this time and his character was checking him out this episode too.

2023-08-23 06:44:16 +0000 UTCi think the show reuses topics but it doesn’t ever feel like the same storyline over again and no character feels like ur trying to remake an old character. that’s something i think degrassi did really well. sometimes topics in the early seasons might get brought up in a new way later and they get touched on a little deeper. and i think the thing to remember is these are kids like they are bipolar lmao. they’re constantly changing it’s just apart of growing up. we haven’t even gotten to the really heavy episodes. trust me when i say that this is just crumbs for what’s to come. the vibe of the show never really changes overall. also these queer storylines (we’ve gotten 3 at this point.) really evolve as the show goes on. i think they find a way to talk about sexuality in many different ways. also i think the one thing they add to alter seasons is way more relationship drama

He’s my favorite male character on the show and he definitely wasn’t as bad as Spinner and Sean this episode, but he still teased Marco and like, hangs out with those guys lol I get it, it’s totally realistic, and that’s why I like Degrassi, but it just irks me as a person who wants him to do better. But, at the very least, you can always tell when Jimmy is OVER Spinner’s idiocy. I will say that Jimmy laughing about two guys doing it was more coming from a place of discomfort/ignorance, but I didn’t think he was trying to make a joke about it. He found two men together “funny,” which is based in homophobia, sure, but not based in malice. I thought the question that he asked was a good one for a boy his age who genuinely doesn’t understand how a man could be attracted to another man. Totally a limited worldview, but not him being the worst, I think. But I do agree with you ultimately. Jimmy LOVES to sit on the fence when it comes to virtually anything involving Spinner or his friends, and is generally flip-floppy, so I’m hoping he grows out of that. Marco/Ellie were so sweet this episode. I live for this friendship. And coming out is difficult enough, but if your friend group consists of Sean, Jimmy and Spinner, I would literally never come out omg. Speaking of, Jimmy and Sean are hanging out now?? That totally went unexplained lmao I wonder if they left out Craig (who completes the friend group in my mind) purposefully for this storyline? Much to think about.

2023-08-23 03:48:07 +0000 UTCwe'll definitely get more marco development in the coming episodes/seasons. the marco/ellie friendship is also one of the best on the show. and yes... to answer your question, this show hits on every possible teen drama archetype/storyline you could possibly think of throughout its run lol. but they do it well.

I’m really glad we’re getting into Marco and Ellie storylines more. Also most of the episodes are named after 80s songs so that’s probably why Careless Whisper sounded familiar . Overall it was a good episode
