I'm fascinated by their story, and I adore all the facets of their relationship. I also like how Serena and Lily's journeys are similar, and how Serena tries not to be her mother but often fails. "It's like your twentieth wedding!" Yes, but this time it's to Rufus, someone she actually cares about. It's similar to Lorelai and Luke. It was just different from her previous relationships. Lily is someone who has had to live her life behind a mask since she was a teenager, as we saw in flashbacks and in scenes with her mother. She grew up in a world similar to Emily in Gilmore Girls, where appearances matter, status matters, and it matters more than her heart. She excels at that lifestyle, so letting go and feeling is terrifying for her. She is afraid to be vulnerable, to let someone in, to be herself because she is afraid of being hurt. It's her worst nightmare. I find her very intriguing. However, in order to do so, you must look deeper than it appears you are.
