YES! I love this show and hardly anyone reacts to it. I really hope you will continue reacting to this one as it is my all time favorite scifi show. Thank you!

2023-03-01 03:46:32 +0000 UTCIt's a solid pilot, really good at the time and holds up. It holds up better than the film does. But it probably doesn't do justice to how much better it ends up getting, or showing how good it will be. The acting, the effects, and the story really go from strength to strength. And once they settle the characters, and flesh them out, they get better and better. Same for the general lore, as they expand and start explaining everything and fleshing out the universe.

2023-02-28 23:45:48 +0000 UTCThe Stargate in the movie did officially lead to other planets, they had sequels planned doing just that. But it was 2 or 3 others or something silly rather than a huge network.

2023-02-28 18:54:27 +0000 UTCThe lead guy (Richard Dean Anderson) used to be the main character on a show called MacGyver in the 80s that was remade in the 2010s. When Carter (Captain-Doctor *g*) discovers the dial devices she exclaims that it took them 15 years to macgyver a system like that which was a cutesy nod to that. There's a prank the cast pulled on him from an episode later this season (does not contain any spoilers): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EriZ9ruZq1E

2023-02-28 18:38:08 +0000 UTCHere's some background on the movie: Originally the planet they had been visiting (Abydos) was in a whole different galaxy and the Stargate only lead there. Back in ancient egypt the alien posing as Ra held humans as slaves and abducted them to Abydos. To make the show work they expanded the idea that the Stargate only leads to one destination and instead works like a telephone where you dial a planet that is described by six target coordinates and and one source icon. Here's the scene from the movie where Daniel (James Spader) describes how this symbol system works: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hqf2_5SwaL8

2023-02-28 18:19:11 +0000 UTCWow, there's a whole chunk of the second episode missing. Because this originally aired on Showtime, they demanded something spicy for their pilot. So when Sha're (Daniels's wife) is taken over, we actually see the parasite entering her through her neck and burrowing itself around her spine. We also got to see a full frontal nudity of her which is why I think this whole scene was cut altogether. These parasites don't really care about the human hosts at all, they just see them as flesh vehicles and demand they be healthy specimen.

2023-02-28 17:48:54 +0000 UTCThe main character isn’t very likeable here because the actor is trying to match Kurt Russell in the movie. As the show goes on he puts his own more smartass spin on the character and he’s one of the favorites of the franchise. Many episodes are “problem of the week” stand-alone with overall arc episodes sprinkled in. The show started on Showtime than moved to SciFi channel so the episodes would air in chunks throughout the year.

2023-02-28 12:16:57 +0000 UTCThis is a terrific show and a cult classic. The pilot is more action-driven and a lot will be explained in the next episodes, like the world, history, species and motivations. there are questions right now, but you understand as you get to know the histories of each character and as they are finding out more and more about the goauld aliens. I would be so down for you to keep reacting to the show.)
