I never really liked the first season of Scandal tbh and I think I had the same reservations as you. What was groundbreaking at the time is that Kerry Washington was the first black woman to lead a primetime drama in over 40 years. She was also a woman in a position of power and for Scandal’s many many problems, I do think it was an important step forward for creating more interesting roles for black women on television. I personally think Liv IS likable, but she doesn’t need to be a saint to be effective. She’s the messy black woman anti-hero of our dreams! I have more to say about her relationship with the president, but don’t want to get into spoilery territory, but I’m under the impression that people appreciated that a powerful black woman was shown as desirable and loved by a powerful white man, as black love interests with white men do tend to be continuously disrespected. Saying all this, I hate Fitz’s guts anyway lol

I remember having some of the same issues you did with season 1 and was very glad I gave it another chance with season 2

Love this show though it's soooo good. While it is a procedural there actually is great central plot and storyline.
