I get where you're coming from hating Peyton. I see Peyton as worse in this situation because she has been trying to take Lucas from Lindsey and being rude to Lindsey who tried to be nice all season. Lucas is doing some stupid stuff, but he's said he was in love with Lindsey from the beginning of the season and he's continually chosen her even with Peyton throwing herself and their past at him.

Leora Nechama

Well she does suck

Trevon

I love your S5 reactions because Lucas and Peyton are just awful this season and in my opinion have zero rooting value. I think the show really underestimated what this storyline would do for them moving forward with the casualty of Lindsey hanging between them. They left no room for any middle ground. I think you either like Lucas and Peyton and pull for them, or you can't stand them, lol. Glad you're enjoying everything this season has to offer though because at the time OTH was venturing into brand new territory as the jump ahead between seasons was something that had never been done before. It gave the actors a chance to play much closer to their actual ages while propelling the characters forward now that they didn't have to worry about playing teenagers or college kids. It was a win win for everybody. It invigorated the cast as a whole, and gave the audience a chance to see Naley as a family unit parenting a 4/5 year old little boy, instead of a couple who just has a baby that you only see so often on screen. Jamie actually becomes a pivotal character that's not only the next generation of Scott's but also the link between friends. So hang in there, and I think overall you'll appreciate what S5 accomplished for the show!!!

Melissa

I have been blatantly ignoring Season 5 because of all the Leyton bashing as I am a notorious Leyton supporter lol and I actually like their angst this season haha This isn't the first time a show put their main couples through hell. It feels like they're pulling a Ross/Rachel here tbh. I think it is both their worst seasons, but Idk, I've always gravitated toward the messy couples after all.

I Am Not Chamari

Okay… your constant Peyton bashing is kind of making it hard to watch these reactions. This is obviously a bad season for her and the writers definitely did her dirty, but you saying “you suck” every time she’s on the screen is just getting old. You weren’t saying anything about Brooke when she encouraged Peyton to go after Luke! And why is Peyton the home wrecker when she told Luke to leave her alone multiple times and he never did?!

Ashley Kinney

Brooke and Lucas also had individual stories outside the triangle but I agree Peyton has consistently had her own major storyline. I just think the stories were executed poorly and went soap opera long before the rest of the series did which just made her storylines fantastical and disconnected from the others. Also considering all the soap opera storylines she got, she really should have evolved more as a character but the writers never let her. No offense to you for liking her. We all love characters for different reasons. But like I said, I personally never found her soap opera stories to be redeeming and only found value in her emotional connection with characters that weren’t Lucas.

Melissa

Not true, respectfully disagreeing with you! These storyline for me was always redeeming and alot more interesting to follow than her friendship with Brooke. The loss of her mother, her adoptive parents, psycho Derek, her real Brother Derek. At least with Peyton she has other storyline to follow aside from brooke and Lucas love triangle. These storyline made me form an attachment to her even when she made some dumb choices. Peyton always had a own storyline to stand alone on.

Peaches

LEYTON supporter over here! Also I don’t see how someone saying good bye and finally letting go can be twisted into manipulation. You’re reading too deep into it. Lucas isn’t innocent in their mess. He’s to blame for how this is playing out as well.

Peaches

I agree, I dislike Peyton more rewatching the series. People will hate this, but she was very manipulative in a lot of situations. . . .and rewatching I can’t see how I ever liked Lucas. He can wise, but he’s so toxic

Deon

Through every season, I personally find that Peyton's only redeeming qualities/stories are related to other likable characters like Brooke, Jake, Haley, Nathan, etc. I find her friendship with Brooke to be her most redeeming quality and yet it's built on Peyton being a shit friend and Brooke forgiving her every time. I know there's some pre-show lore about Brooke being shitty but Brooke grew and evolved. Peyton never really does so it's no surprise she's still the homewrecker four years later. Don't even get me started on Lucas.

Melissa

Oh 100. Lucas is such an incredible idiot this season. Mostly bc he is still behaving like in season 1 - he's not patient enough with Peyton and breaks it off and then goes to an innocent third party to put all his love for Peyton on her and it NEVER WORKS. What Steven is making me see through his pov though is how much Peyton is also behaving like she hasn't grown up. I never saw that before a) bc professionally she has and b) bc Lucas is the root of all this mess. But yeah her behavior this season regarding her love life is not great.

thisismaria27

Oh no she's totally wrong how she's going about it but I rewatched the next couple of episodes and Lucas is awful. I had forgotten lol. I.kind of feel like Leyton fans just got a raw deal this season.

blugirlami21

Look, I am in no way saying Peyton is innocent here. I mean, she is trying to get with a guy who is in a serious relationship with a really nice lady. I‘m just saying that Lucas being the one in said serious relationship is even more to blame. He has all the power here, he can make all of this stop by making a clear choice. But ofc he doesn’t bc we all know he just proposed to Lindsay to run from his feelings for Peyton like a complete dumbass 🙄

thisismaria27

You get it Maria, I am skipping most of the reactions to avoid the Peyton bashing. Lucas is terrible in this season, the writing for Leyton is god awful. I feel like every time Peyton tried to move on Lucas will say something to give her hope. Or he will do or say something to give her hope and then immediately double down on this relationship with Lindsay. Also how can saying goodbye to Lucas be manipulative? He just proposed to Lindsay, what was she supposed to say? Lucas has this victim narrative about their breakup that he obviously told himself and others over the years but Peyton didn't do anything wrong and I hate that all of their friends try to make her feel bad about what happened. Esp Haley.

blugirlami21

Okay I am not a Peyton fan. Her characters motivations are always off for me but I can still sympathize with her often. That being said no she was not trying to manipulate Lucas by letting him go she was truly trying to give him what he wants a clean slate. Since she met Lucas there's been a voice inside her head telling her that he is it for her at the end of the day no matter how long it takes.Even he has said that to her and so have those around her so I sympathize with her in her pain at realizing she has to let go of what she thought her life would look like even if they haven't been together for two years. That all being said yes, this season is her worst. Most poorly written. She is selfish and often mean spirited and I think the next episode is going to be a rough reaction. I think the only redemption in this being a rough time for Peytons character and writing is that she isn't proud of how she is acting but she is just too angry and hurt. And hurt people hurt people. She is young and faced with the reality of loosing the love of her life and she doesn't handle it well at all which is okay. Calling Peyton a homewrecker is harsh but I understand why you'd say it, but Lucas is equally at fault because he as Brooke said dives head first into relationships to protect himself from getting hurt but is okay with hurting others in an effort to do so.

J

"I don't know what this love story we're suppose to be seeing is." Right! Timeless love story? Where. They are no show and all tell. They try too hard to convince us.

Heather

Yeah, I dislike Steven's "homewrecker" remark. It's a little misogynistic to blame the woman when she isn't even the one who is cheating, etc. Sure, she's doing some bad things and deserves to be blamed for them, but her contribution pales in comparison to Lucas'. Every time he doesn't tell her to back off, not to mention kissing her back, or whispering in her ear "he's not good enough for you", he gives her hope.

cruzinbosco

Exactly! Brooke just wanted to demonstrate that she may be hot but not easy,

thisismaria27

Also can I say Peyton finally letting Lucas go was in no way manipulative. She simply said goodbye. I get it, dislike for characters can get the best of us sometimes, but this was truly just meant as a goodbye.

thisismaria27

Okay, so I ship Lucas and Peyton. Buuuut season 5 Lucas/Peyton was just terrible there is no denying that. Did Peyton behave childish and unlikeable - heck yes. But it was still all on Lucas. He broke up with Peyton for the dumbest reason, he never got over her, he had lover's quarrels in her office with her late at night, he kissed her even though he's in a serious relationship, he proposed to Lindsay right after (and as a response to) said kiss - he did all that. So I don't put the blame on Peyton even though her current behavior is not great, but it's Lucas's mess and if he wanted nothing to do with Peyton, he could've but he doesn't bc he still loves her and is stringing Lindsay along bc he is in denial.

thisismaria27

As far as the Brooke thing, I think it was to show Owen that if she wanted to be who he thought she was that she could easily do it (find men to sleep with) but she's not that person and got out of the car. He even very quietly says "atta girl" or something to that effect and smiled after she got out. He realizes maybe she's not the shallow person he thought she was.

Rebeccaf87

I agree that Peyton is a homewrecker, I also don't think Peyton is the best character in this show, far from it, their are so many people I would put above her on my favorite character list including Tim, yes Tim. However Lucas is still below her for me because I still think he's worse than her as a character, also I don't think Lucas is really trying to move on from Peyton, I think he's just lying to himself. If he was trying to move on, why did he keep going to see her, why did he whisper in her ear the He's not good enough for you line, I don't think he's really trying to move on from her and he's just going to end up hurting Lindsey like he hurt Brooke. Also, I'll just keep stating Peyton didn't break up with Lucas he broke up with her, no matter what Lucas says.

Jeremy Burch

Also, as much as I hate the Leyton storyline, gotta say, it's a bit weird that people keep blaming Peyton for the breakup. It was all Luke. Tried to hold on too tight, couldn't even wait for his supposed love of his life to sort out her life before getting ready for marriage, left in the middle of the night without a proper breakup...then it's all sob stories from the airport onwards. I think Haley was just told Luke’s version of events cuz she really believes Peyton said no when all she said was they should wait until they were both ready. I'm a little more on Peyton's side cuz Luke is just obviously using and hurting Lindsey while Peyton is just, wrongly, trying to fix this mistake. But, yeah, no, neither of them are acting like people anyone should root for this season...

I'm not a Leyton shipper but I *DO* want them to get together because they only make other people miserable when they're apart. I feel so bad for Lindsey. Yeah, she's a little naive for falling for a guy who wrote an entire book where he declared his everlasting love for another girl, but Luke played her HARD. She didn't deserve that. Peyton had such a cool potential with all the music stuff. Wish they'd lean into that and put Leyton to rest but here we are. I'm glad you wanna know Nanny Carrie's backstory cuz she's a villian I love to hate lol. Nathan's being real dumb for someone who used to be a player.

Nyssa Rawther 🍉

peyton has always been one of my least favorite characters

sn

Thank you for saying it! Peyton is most definitely a homewrecker, from very early on in the show! I hate that people defend her on that because it is clear as day. Lucas is also dumb af, I dislike him more than Peyton tho. He is going out of his way to hurt more people than he should, it's insane! Like you can clearly see he is just trying so hard to convince himself and others that he is head over heels for Lindsey when like it's so not true. Their storyline this season is annoying af. I am enjoying your reactions and commentary on them tho because BIG SAME! Those were my exact thoughts when I watched it for the first time and sometimes it felt like I was alone on that because a huge part of the fandom are very much into Peyton+Lucas ship

Michel Stephany Garces

Ha ha. Someone finally said it! Peyton was a homewrecker. . .I also don’t understand how the book was a love story, he dated Peyton for like 2 months (if that) at the end of senior year. Book was done before graduation so they weren’t together long, their whole story before that is being friends and cheating. Not romantic.
