Wesley's final moments always gets me

This is where all the die hards scream:" It's an analogy...we dont get an ending because Angel doesn't get an ending...he just keeps fighting!" I think it's bullshit! 7 seasons of Buffy and 5 seasons of Angel and this is what we get 😔 they could have given us som many different endings...and they gave us THIS! It's a slap in the face! 🥺😔

Wesley says in the early Season " Angel's cut off, death doesn‘t bother him because there is nothing in life he wants ." and now " There is no perfect day for me Ilyria, there is no sunset or painting or finely aged scotch that‘s going to sum up my life...There is nothing i want."

Frederick

Damn, did not think about it like this but I like it.

The Lorne scene always makes me sad too. Lorne, empathetic to all, never wanted to fight. It's why he left Pylea and why he started Caritas, a place without violence.

This message is echoed in the scene with Anne. Even if nothing gets better she focuses on what she can do... get the truck packed and help those she can, how she can.

I have read a little bit of Angel: after the fall, comic book and I much prefer this ending to anything in the comics. This is the perfect ending for this show. Whether they live or die doesn’t really matter, what matters is that they fought the good fight for as long as they could and made a difference. The season 2 two-parter, Reprise and Epiphany sum up the shows mission statement and tell us why this is the perfect ending. In Reprise, Angel takes that elevator ride with Holland Manners where Holland tells Angel that, evil will always exist in some form or other. There is no, defeating evil or wolfram and hart. Because of that, they couldn’t have Angel “win” in the end. There is no winning over evil. What Angel decides in Epiphany is, “if nothing we do matters, all that matters is what we do” and that “fighting the good fight” for as long as you can and make as much of a positive impact for as long as you can is all that you can do in the end. In my opinion, they don’t need comics or a movie to wrap up what happened, what happened in the episode is perfect. They fought the good fight for as long as they could. They made a difference despite knowing they couldn’t “win” in the end. It’s not about winning so whether they live through that fight or not isn’t really the point at all. The vague ending is exactly what the show has always been. And the final line of “let’s go to work” is one of the all time great final lines.

One of the great tv finales, everyone gets to shine. I do always feel bad for Lorne though because, killing is not in his character and he's so sad this whole season. Wesley gets to be with Fred one last time and Illyria really becomes a part of the team. Amy Acker was amazing in the dual role this season. You can read about the comic on the wikipedia, no need to buy them.

I believe the comics for both Buffy and Angel you can only get second hand now as the license reverted from Dark Horse to Fox and now Fox is creating a new comic series.

i think the open ended ending works here. throughout the show angel has given countless speeches about how they don't necessarily fight evil to win, but rather to fight for whats right. this ending kind of encapsulates that mindset. so we didn't necessarily need to see the final battle. i also thought the finale had the right amount of suspense, action, and wrapping up of lose ends. overall this is a great ending to a fantastic show. believe it or not there are a lot of buffy fans out there who have no desire to watch angel and won't give the show a chance. i think any fan of buffy should watch angel too. the two shows complete each other. angel is one of my favorite spinoff series.

im curious what your season rankings are for both buffy and angel. i'd love to hear an after thoughts video where you kinda dive into both shows...favorite episodes, storylines, characters, overall thoughts, etc. i've been with you on this buffyverse ride since the beginning and its sad to see it finally come to an end.

Joss Whedon basically demanded a early pick up for season 6 after having to wait a long time between seasons to find out if they would be renewed, it back fired and the big wigs didn't like that so they canceled it.

Love the call back to spike doing his poetry, and him finally getting applause for it ❤️ love the end of this show.
