Fran had to fight for her character to be Jewish. They execs wanted her to be Italian. Fran said she couldn't authentically play an Italian since she herself is a Russian Jew.. She was the first Jewish female to play a Jewish female in a starring spot during prime time.

2023-06-14 05:10:16 +0000 UTCI'm really glad you enjoyed this! Friends came after The Nanny, so I'm sure Janice was based off of Fran. Fran's Jewish. The show was created by Fran and her then husband so a lot of stuff, including her name, was based off of her real life. Niles the butler is honestly comedy gold. His one liners and insults for CeCe are ALWAYS straight up fire. It took me until now to know that he's not actually British in real life. I also really enjoy the little girl Gracie the most. I forgot a lot from the pilot but I always assumed that Maxwell wasn't dating Cece, that she was having a one sided crush...Niles' lines about Cece and Maxwell have me confused lol
