andi mack forever my favorite disney show

tanasia

Like someone said, Andi Mack (a disney show) had a gay character in the show. I actually think you should check out andi mack one day, the story is good even if the kid actors are decent. It has a teen mom and a gay character! And he's explicitly gay, he comes out during the show, it's a big storyline. The actor even came out as bisexual I think. Good Luck Charlie actually had lesbian moms on but disney had to cut the episode from airing when parents got upset. That was around 2014 i think, so they are slowly improving...Nickelodeon had a lesbian character on their show Loud House. I think she has a girlfriend. It's a cartoon. Also High school musical the series has a gay couple and gay moms, but it's on disney+ so i wont give them much credit for that one.

Also, i found it weird that Jimmy wasn't in this episode....like, considering his gf just had this news. I also think it'd be a nice development for it considering a later storyline that. But maybe they just wanted her to feel isolated.

I LOVE Jt's plot lol. As a queer person, I dont even find it offensive. I actually like that JT wasn't even grossed out by the idea of being gay. He was confused on it and talked about it with toby, then (as a kid) thought it'd get a girl away from him. And even pretended to be flirty wtih toby. It's stupid and immature, but i kind of love it cause i guarantee kids do that now. Like you said, it was ahead of its time. Guys pretend to kiss and make out and flirt on tiktok for views, Jt was just doing it for the opposite reasons 20 years before lol. JT is a little shithead as you said, but i still love him. He has a certain charm to him, along with Spinner. I think it's a props to the actors.

i remember when adam was announced and it was just this...i can't even describe the feeling. but degrassi always felt like a love letter to a lot of us lgbt+ kids who hadn't seen ourselves onscreen ever before. it felt like a comfort, a hug, a "we see you and you're gonna be okay." it's such a special show in that regard

degrassi is one of the first show to have gay characters, let alone teenagers, let alone actually have romantic relationships. And they were the first show to have a transgender character (explicitly stating they are transgender).

degrassi and boys meets world are 2 of the most progressive shows i can’t think of from the 90’s and early 2000’s. this is just the beginning of sexuality storylines on the show. what i like about this episode is they touched on sexuality in many different ways not just with ash’s dad which i think is cool. also disneys first ever gay character was in like 2017 i believe in a show called andi mack. i loved that show and that was kinda during the beginning of this new “woke” stuff so i’m sure there were a lot of mixed reactions. i don’t think degrassi was on teen nick till later on so i think that’s why they had a lot more freedom with the storylines they wrote but yeah if this aired right now a certain group of people would definitely have a meltdown. oh and i like how they added in terri’s mom dying and paige’s brother being gay it just added to their characters and the storyline. ash was being a bit selfish and not completely understanding so i’m glad terri told ashe that she had a choice that she’s doesn’t. paige honestly becomes more likeable later on and i like that they brought up her brother so soon. (also my fav show ever dawsons creek had the first ever gay television kiss. i consider that show to be pretty progressive as well)

This will certainly not be the last storyline dealing with sexual orientation and I believe Degrassi was the first to air some of these topics which is crazy. We are starting to dip into the more serious stuff very slowly. This show breaks so many boundaries for its time, and I feel like you will not think of this as a kids show anymore once we get a little further in. If you are really enjoying these types of storylines/episodes now, then you will be very pleased and shocked for whats to come when the acting will start to get better over time with these storylines as the cast grows up. Honestly I'm pretty sure Degrassi tackles every topic you can think of, I really can't think of one they haven't touched on. Hoping for 2 episodes next week!

A haiku is a poem with three lines: first line is five syllables, second line is seven syllables and third line is five syllables. I am so glad that you enjoyed this episode! Degrassi was SO ahead of its time.
