Also, this show definitely gaslit me cause i swear Emma started the rumor and she didn't, like you said she was just concerned. Somehow they made me believe this for so long till i saw it again with you.

As you said, he’s kind of the boy who cries wolf, because of the trouble he’s presumably caused in the past. In the end, it was his reputation that screwed him over. So, he was doubly punished in a way.
