i feel like every single episode i watch of you watching this is just you hating on it the whole time lol

for me, i thought it was clear this episode was following the "three men and a baby" trope. but maybe you might not be aware of what the trope is. there's a film with tom selleck called "three men and a baby." three sterotypical guys find and care for an abandoned baby. they are so far out of their element and hijinx ensue. it became a trope after that show. it's why there's the episode of chandler and joey taking care of ben for the day. it's supposed to be funny and not take itself too seriously. when phoebe is the one to conect with the baby most, i didn't find that out of character at all. hell, at seven i knew i wanted to be a mom. it was when i held a baby for the first time and something in me clicked. that isn't an "agenda." and no, i absolutely was not ready for babies at age seven lol but just as it's not okay to pressure women who do not want kids, it's not really okay to write off te desire of women that do. for some people, it clicks. holding a baby, seeing it look up at your face in your arms, for some people there's just a "click" and for others, there isn't. neither is "right" or "wrong." i don't think having phoebe like kids and want to be a mom someday is an agenda or changing her character. being a party girl and having fun when you're young isn't indicative of being a bad mother later in life. hell, i'm 30 and i'm not ready yet. but i still know in my heart that's what i want someday. many of the women in my family didn't start making their own families until their late 30s and even late 40s. there's time to grow and get things together and change. but you can still acknowledge a desire to be a mother someday. and being a party girl and having fun doesn't mean someone is going to be a horrible mother by default. heck, i knew girls who were teen moms, who busted their asses and worked hard all during the week and saturday nights was their night out. kid was safe with their parents and they could go be young and party that one night a week and come back and be some of the best dang moms i have seen. so i don't think there's anything to indicate phoebe wouldn't be a good mom just because she's younger and more "flighty." she even says in the episode she has a long way to go before settling down and having kids. she acknowledges this herself.

Great comment, hope he can take a couple mins to read this. :) I wonder did the girls actually know hitting his bones would make him feel anything, it seemed like they wanted to hit them but weren't fully aware. Yes Phoebe is the youngest with the most growing up to do, she admitted herself in this episode she still needs to get her life together, and in previous episodes she was pretty hard on herself for not working, so she is responsible enough to realise what she needs to focus on. Phoebe was good with Jenny, also friendly with temporarily blind kid, to me her type of person in real life is always good at interacting with kids. :D I don't know if this episode was intended to give any kind of message, it just seems like it's written by people who have similar beliefs and grew up with a certain mindset, I mean Charmed did come out a while ago, so creators of the show were born and raised even earlier.

It isn't strange to me that Phoebe would want kids someday. Maybe it's not something she's thought about before now - which is normal. She's 22 now, right? Way too young for most people to start planning a family, especially with no long-term partners ao far. But I've always had this vibe that even with all her "party girl" ways, Phoebe was always very compassionate and gentle. And she hasn't been partying wildly or anything. She's had less responsibilities than her sisters but I think that's the whole point of Phoebe. She's discovering things about herself, finding her footing and growing up into who she wants to be. It is ODD to me that Piper of all people is shown to be scared of babies. I know they're playing it up for the sake of Prue's weird "when are we seeing little Dans" storyline for Piper but c'mon. Really? Piper's known Dan for a few months and he's the REBOUND guy. Why are we even throwing the word "love" around, let alone making her think about Dan's babies? And secondly, Piper has always been portrayed as the "maternal" sister out of the 3. No way in hell is it in character of her to be scared of babies. I'd assume she would be like Monica Gellar and had her kids' names picked out since high school. Jack is STILL annoying me. She "disappeared" for a few hours after working OT for 3 straight days and suddenly she's not serious about work? Prue might have seriously bad taste in men... Frankly, I'd think Prue of all people wouldn't want kids, especially not right now. She seems very career driven. Maybe her trip to the future made her rethink things since she was upset she had no real connections, just work, in her life. If someone offered to change a baby's diaper so I wouldn't have to, I'd shove that baby in their direction. Maybe it's just me lol. Someone probably already told you but Jenny's parents didn't die. They live overseas in Saudi Arabia cuz of work. Remember Jenny introduced herself by coming over to the manor and using their phone to call them long distance? She went to live with her parents again. Bts, she was written out cuz literally no one liked her character. I DO like Darryl's dynamic with not just Phoebe but with all 3 sisters. But it's felt very big brother-y to me so far. It's very cute, true, but very platonic. And yeah Darryl is married. I HATE that they went all "we should be good with babies. It's in our DNA", which I assume is why they made all 3 sisters baby crazy. This WAS 20 years ago so they're a lot less...aware, I guess lol. I was born female and there's not a single part of me that ever wanted babies. I also totally despise the whole outcome for the presentation. Prue worked so hard for so many days on it. Jack did one day's work to complete HER work and suddenly she's out of the running cuz she had a family emergency? Cuz Jack's suddenly "the best"? And Prue can stand there smiling at the baby like it's all worth it? HELL NAH. I'd be PISSED! Yeah I hate that Jack had to go beg for Prue to go too. Like...wtf. She's been the most hardworking person there. It's been said more than once that she's incredibly talented at what she does. He's like a kid who barely does anything and yet he's the one who has to vouch for her??? I despise everything about Prue's storyline in this episode. EVERYTHING. I think this is the first time we hear about Darryl being a dad. I didn't even clock on to the wedding ring during my first watch. We're learning more and more about Darryl and I LOVE it. That thing in Prue's hair is not even the oddest thing you'll see these 3 wear. At times you're gonna be wondering just WTF is going on in the costume department... The way Prue literally RAISED Elias' body from the ground was SO cool. She's such a badass!! Jack doesn't deserve her little toe let alone anything else. I think the Elias story had potential but could've been executed better. There were a lot of plotholes. Maybe they could've even changed the story to have Elias attached to grandma instead of the house so that wherever they moved he'd still be there? And did they HAVE to hit his bones before they poured their potion or whatever onto it? Or was it just to hurt him? Cuz that's just a way to warn him that his bones were getting destroyed. That scene near the end with all 3 of them giggling and smiling and being so happy to change Matthew's nappy was a little too Stepford to me. Freaks me out. It's a very 1950s message they're giving this episode - women can't help but want kids and they'll bond with every baby they spend time with and they'll be really thrilled to throw everything else away for a baby. I do think though that Phoebe's character changing is part of growing up. She'll evolve. It would be sad if, at the end of the series, she's still the same person we meet in the pilot. As she's the youngest, I think her character should probably change more than the others as she literally needs to grow up. I don't know. This is a very skippable episode to me... Luckily for us, there are a lot of fire episodes coming for season 2 and season 3 ramps things up HARD.

As the ”baby“ in my group of three sisters (they’re 16 and 13 years older than me) myself, I would be pretty sad and hurt if my sisters wouldn’t believe I could be a good mother when that time comes, just because of how the circumstances are *right now*. So what, because I’m 21, haven’t had a real relationship yet (there could be many reasons for that), used to be a reckless teenager, that means I’m not gonna become a great mother someday? She said herself she was gonna get her life in order, so that’s obviously her going in the right direction. That kind of a view is very dammaging to a person’s confidence, not believing that someone can become something great, whatever that is, just because of how they are now or how they used to be in their teens. That’s just holding them back. She has plenty of years left to grow and evolve, she’s just in her early 20s. Like how are you gonna keep believing in yourself if the people closest to you don’t believe in you? I agree with the comments above too. We haven’t seen that much interaction between Phoebe and kids to decide that she definitely dislikes kids. Nothing about her in season 1 and so far in season 2 would have lead me to believe she would dislike kids? She’s also actually pretty smart and intuitive, so don’t underestimate her too much. She deserves more credit

Agree :) ’someday’ thinking of family and kids is totally normal for most people, those kind of thoughts happen even earlier than early twenties, some girls think about that stuff even in teen years while also being fully aware they're far from ready for it. Hell, little girls play with dolls pretending to be moms, it’s in our nature. A person can be irresponsible and have different priorities at the moment, while also being a warm, sweet person who likes babies and kids. ;D totally different things in my eyes that don't relate to eachother

This! So many women I know have expressed their desires to have kids since they were in their late teens/early 20s—Even the “party girls” and the ones who didn’t have their shit together. You can be young, and a little reckless and figuring things out, AND also know you would like to be a mom someday. They’re not contradictory desires lol Also, we haven’t seen anything in season 1 or 2 yet that would give the impression that Phoebe wouldn’t want kids. Yes, she’s been a little childish, but we’ve seen her be caring and compassionate with people many times so there’s no reason in the show to assume she “wouldn’t like kids”. She’s never said she didn’t like them or didn’t want them. We just haven’t seen her interact with any until now. And she was really good with the neighbor girl next door, so it’s not much of a stretch to me to see her be pretty good with a baby.

I don't think being a party girl and dating around when you're young has anything to do with liking (or not liking) babies and kids or being kinda good with them. Like, why can't you be both? I don't think this episode takes itself too seriously. It's just a story where girls, being young and not really knowing much about babies are forced to take care of one for a while, which results in a bit of a comedic start and also forces them to start thinking of parenthood and if maybe they can do this for real someday, especially taking into account their witch and life responsibilities. Also, I don't think they trying to change Phoebe's character, she is just growing. She's been growing as a character(and as a maturing person, in general) in small and not-so-small ways since season 1.
