There seems to be a lot of different opinions about if it was consensual with Mary and Pamuk or not but regardless, their was definitely a lot of coercion going on, so, consent, to me, is definitely a big question mark. I really don't like O'Brien, she's the worst.

2023-08-31 10:31:02 +0000 UTCI like that Thomas being gay is something they all pretty much know or at least guessed (based on Carson's reaction when Thomas asked "is he mine?", Bates' comment about Thomas cheering up when he saw Pamuk and Lord Grantham not reacting surprised at all) and just never talk about (thanks to the time period and the inhumane laws about it at the time) but they don't persecute him over it. I'm well curious to know what people think of Mary and Pamuk having sex because to me, ever since first watch, it wasn't consensual. Mary was terrified. She shut him down twice! He was acting very aggresive towards her. It was AT LEAST coercion. And he totally planned it too! I too thought that he was purposefully flirting with Thomas and then acting all outraged for half a millisecond before that ask for help on the "geography of the house". He knew what he was doing. Mary wasn't the first woman he's done this to. I feel like Mary (with the prejudice that women faced then and still today 100 years later) knew she'd be the one blamed if a man was found in her room, which is something Pamuk said to convince her to be quiet. And even after, she was terrified she'd be ruined because let's face it, she would be. People wouldn't care if she was r*ped. They'd still blame her and no "right" man would want her to be his wife. But her reactions after, the depression and the way she worded things...she gave in to his advances so she feels guilty but she was coerced. She's the victim who convinced herself she allowed it to happen and that she's at fault for him not only coming to her room and staying there but for his death. I am 100% convinced it WAS at the very least a dubious-consensual, coerced experience and that Mary was a victim. Anna and Sybil are THE BEST. I do like Bates as well. He was sweet to Gwen when she was crying. Oh, man...just seeing these characters again makes me think of all they go through. Really wish you'll continue the reactions. I feel SO badly for Bates. I think that is how that device was meant to be used. Medical devices, if you can even call this that, seemed more like torture devices back then. Grandma isn't evil, just very set in very old ways, even compared to this time period's standards. I love her because she says the most outrageous, iconic lines of this show lol. Thomas and O'brien are literally the villians you love to hate. They suck so much but they're so entertaining lol. It was MESSED UP that O'brien went and got the entire staff involved and opened Gwen's personal belongings like that.

2023-08-30 02:00:13 +0000 UTCSo fun to watch! Yeah Pamuk and Mary had sex and he probably had a heart attack duringβ¦climax. The situation with them sleeping together has always been a gray area. He definitely was aggressive in pursuing her but I think she actually did like him and wanted to sleep with him but was scared and worried about propriety, then basically gave in. So she was nervous to have sex for the first time, loses her virginity, then has her first sexual partner die on top of her. So many emotions she was probably going through.
