2023-12-16 20:36:08 +0000 UTCAngelina Jolie did the same thing in regards to breast cancer and ovarian cancer prevention. In 2013, she had a preventive double mastectomy after learning she had an 87% risk of developing breast cancer due to a defective BRCA1 gene. Two years later, in March 2015, after annual test results indicated possible signs of early ovarian cancer, she underwent a preventive salpingo-oophorectomy (removal of an ovary and its fallopian tube), as she had a fifty percent risk of developing ovarian cancer due to the same genetic anomaly. Her mother had breast cancer and both her mother and grandmother died of ovarian cancer. She wanted to make sure she would always be around for her children, so they wouldn't lose their mom. Because of her openness about the testing and the measures she took, millions of lives have been saved. ❤️

2023-12-16 10:48:19 +0000 UTCHated the husband, too. Actually have heard about preventive surgeries when you have a high risk of getting certain types of cancer and I think it's a good thing. And that husband has a very shallow love if all he cares about is the way she looks, her sex drive and the fact that she can't walk around barefoot and pregnant. Please, sir. Adoption? If the person I love went through this, I'd hold their hand and be their support. And if this means I have a much bigger chance of spending more years with them, cancer free, I'd be all for it. If this was meant to be a glimpse into the kind of shallow friends and shallow life that Derek led in NY, then it did its job.

2023-12-14 15:19:35 +0000 UTCalso side note: i think if you view derek less through a lens of someone doing something bad and malicious and look at it more like he's trying to be honorable but it's biting him in the ass more than anything it'll help. i think you are seeing him as just this bad and toxic guy. derek is a good character. he's liked and respected in his field and adored by his patients for a reason. i think looking at it less like he's wanting to hurt addy and meredith and more like he's the literal definition of a well meaning dumbass it may help how you see the rest of his chracter

2023-12-14 15:08:49 +0000 UTCI have watched over 10 seasons of this show so I try to give a non-spoilery answer to your Derek question: he is very indecisive in this season and yes we complained a lot about it. I think his pov is that he made a commitment to his wife and for moral reasons has to see it through, but his feelings are clearly with Meredith and his black-and-white-thinking keeps him from following his heart bc he believes that would make him a shitty husband. Now do we agree? Nah. I hate that Derek is basically unintentionally leading both women on and hurting everyone including himself in the process. I think our love for Derek doesn’t outweigh his dumbness here and I have a feeling you will like him more later on.

2023-12-14 09:41:38 +0000 UTCIdk about future seasons but so far, I'm in the same boat as you. I do not like Derek and I can't stand the interactions/relationship with him and Meredith. They are annoying af!

2023-12-14 05:15:35 +0000 UTCnope, i'm gonna keep going. "in sickness and in health." you marry a person, a human being, not just a body to get off on. i dated a guy whose parents' marriage was like this. his dad resented and loathed his mother when she got older and lost the "body he fell in love with." he was so cruel to her and snippy and impatient with her for every single little thing. he didn't hide the fact that he wasn't attracted to her anymore and blamed her for it. i hear so many stories of men straight up leaving their wives (and wives leaving their husbands, this goes both ways) when sickness and even just normal aging comes into play. it's such a weird thing to me. you chose the person, the human being. the one you have inside jokes with and who makes you laugh and whose smile and eyes and humor and heart you fell in love with. not the body that's going to age or fall away to aging or illness. but the human being. that's who you chose. to be angry...to be resentful...i get getting mad at the circumstances. but to behave like he was...there's no excuse in my book.
