I don't think you need to know much about Scooby to watch this one. I watched two of the Scooby shows when I was a kid (don't remember which one) and the live action films and from what I know, all of the Scooby shows are kind of stand alones. They all are "sort of" connected only in the sense that they follow the same premise - group of friends and talking dog are solving mysteries. It's the most basic plot they all start out with. Some shows might have gone into the backstory later on in the show but it won't be connected to a different Scooby show. Not sure if this one will go into it at a later point or not. I really like that they started out giving us slight backgrounds with the parents so we know a bit about each of them and where they came from. I don't remember the Fred/Daphne dynamic very much but I always thought he liked her. And he was always a bit self involved? His whole thing is the elaborate traps lol. And yeah this might be the first show to introduce Velma and Shaggy as an item? Not quite sure but it IS weird. I noticed they put barettes in Velma's hair, I guess to make her seem girlier? It kind of sucks that they're taking this female character who as far as I recall doesn't really care about being "typically girly" or romance and would rather just focus on science and logic, and made her a bit more stereotypically feminine and gave her a boyfriend. It was a good example that Velma never cared about it cuz not everyone would want to be in relatiobships. But oh well. It would be great to see where the story goes for all of them, though

2023-09-09 02:40:54 +0000 UTCi love the og series and what's new series, even the pupped name scooby, but this one is still fun. I am very much a scooby doo nerd. I watched the 50s series growing up, then as a preteen i loved the where are you series and movies. I always loved the live action too. I don't think i ever finished this show but i did remember liking how funny it was. There's a clip i saw of fred from this show (cant find it now) but i remember laughing so hard and its even better cause it wasn't even a context thing. Fred was never my favorite of the gang but this show made him my favorite.

Itβs not a sequel, but it does give little nods to the original series, like how Velma showed the tourists Charlie the robot and the other past ghosts and creatures of Crystal Cove. Those were all characters from the original Scooby Doo where are you series. You donβt really need to watch any of that to understand that they are a group of friends that solve mysteries, but if youβd like to check out the movies theyβre fun.

I prefer the first one, it's a really good way to bring it to live action - although some of the effects didn't age well, they weren't great at the time to be honest. I like the second one as well though, and some people think it's the better of the two.
