2023-09-30 22:58:04 +0000 UTCI am a fountain of Rihanna knowledge, so bear with me. This might be Rihanna’s only straight up reggae song, save some album tracks on various projects. Her first two albums were very much dancehall, although her second album felt a little more intentionally reggae in the sound. Rihanna also used to make an album a year, so these songs are closer than you think to each other, which makes Rihanna’s ability to create distinct eras with her albums even more impressive. For example, Good Girl Gone Bad was released in 2007, and the deluxe version was released in 2008 (with Disturbia on it). Man Down was released on her 2010 album Loud, which otherwise is very much a pop record. What’s My Name has a bit of dancehall to it as well, though, I guess. Since we’ve done Man Down and Stay, I think we should do something from one of her earlier albums like Pon de Replay or Shut Up And Drive.
