also i get where cory and shawn are coming from. topanga has never ever been one to really care about how she looked, then when she cut her hair, she realized how much she did care. that "these clothes with this hair hello buh-bye i'm SO at the mall" line is not topanga. it'd be fine for her to embrace the new cut and highlights and makeup if it didn't altar her personality like it did. maybe they should have expanded on that more but i think that's what the issue was. i think they just didn't show it as much as they could have, but i think shawn's line about "where are you" was to signal cory was really going through a huge self esteem issue but she kind of didn't see how big of an issue it was to him. i always have loved shawn's dynamic with her since the "use a mirror babe" line in season 1. i think shawn is really good at grounding both cory and topanga and being a good voice of reason in that regard. he's one that can tell it like it is without being hurtful but who also isn't afraid of hurting them in the process. it's a really cool dynamic between the three of them.
