Crystal Convos - Aquamarine

Good morning moon babes. 🤍 As you probably know by now, I'm into crystals. They are a big part of my life, my practice, my spirituality, and my shop! I started this Crystal Convos series to talk to you about gemstones, their spiritual properties, and what they mean. Previously, I've talked about Moonstone and Tiger's Eye. Today I wanted to talk about Aquamarine!

Aquamarine is known as the mermaid stone and was believed to bring good luck to sailors and anyone in open bodies of water. That said, do not put aquamarine in the water. It symbolizes youthful vitality, purity, loyalty, hope, truth, and harmony. Aquamarine is commonly associated with youth, happiness, and beauty.

The name aquamarine comes from Latin (Aqua is Latin for water), and marine, deriving from Marina, (Latin is for 'of the sea'). Aquamarine is the birthstone for March. The color of aquamarine ranges from pale-blue to a light-green. The color can change with heat and its color can fade due to sunlight. 

Historically, aquamarine has been used in a variety of ways by a variety of people! It was used by the Ancient Romans to protect those traveling by sea. It was used to make seals, figurines, and engravings in Chinese culture. Japanese people used aquamarine to make netsuke, which are ornately crafted miniature sculptures. More recently, Meghan Markle wore Princess Diana’s aquamarine and diamond-encrusted cocktail ring during her evening wedding reception. You can find it in countries such as Afghanistan, China, Kenya, Russia, Madagascar, Sri Lanka, and more.

Since aquamarine is associated with water and mermaids, I like using it as an offering to your water spirits and to keep me close to the ocean. I just love that energy, if I could have it wrapped around my body at all times, I would.
