Oh wow no I didn't catch it was because of the chess figure ๐ฎ I thought it look silly (well sort of ๐ ) but it makes sense with this character, he keeps bringing up chess in all situations

Also did you notice small details in "Zero" costume that symbolic for Lelouch character? 1) Zero costume looking like a chess figure a Black King. His mask sharp lines behind that mask also looking like black crown. Lelouch choose that costume design because he loves chess and especially a black chess figures. And i love Lelouch genius and his oratorical skills when he playing role of "Zero". BTW Lelouch also mention orange ๐ a bluff story about Jeremiah. So soldiers would think that Jeremiah released Suzaku because he hiding that story about the orange ๐ that obviously a bluff and false. But it's hilarious ๐
