Time for a Change

I've been contemplating this announcement for quite some time now, and I've finally decided to make some changes to Filaments Folly. I will be transitioning away from the Patreon model, and I want to explain why.

Over the past year, Patreon has collected $32,000 from all of you, and out of that, they took $6,000 as their share. After expenses and taxes, I was left with around $6,000, which might sound like a substantial amount. However, when you break it down, it's roughly $500 a month for 240 hours of work, equating to just over $2 an hour. While the income could have increased if the Patreon grew, we have been at around 400 patrons for over a year.

I absolutely adore creating 3D models, but being a content creator comes with its challenges. Taking time off requires additional work to compensate, and it can feel limiting creatively. I'll continue creating art, but I'm exploring alternative platforms for sharing it. This will be my last month on Patreon.

For those who may have missed any of my designs, please make sure to download them from Dropbox. After that, I'll be transferring them to another platform, which I'll announce soon. Rest assured, I'm not shutting down the Facebook or Discord communities, and Dropbox will remain accessible until the end of next month.

I'll be taking a short break from 3D printing to focus on another project that I have been wanting to do for almost 20 years. I have a link below if you would like to follow that. I deeply appreciate your understanding during this transition.

If you have any questions, please post them below and I will answer them all.

Our Human Experience - This is my dev blog for my next project. I am hoping it will take around a year to release.

Thank you all for all of your support in the last few years!!
